After the "P990 saga" - very expensive, very buggy and all - I think people should be patient with SE. I know, the P1 is supposed to be what the P990 was and that P990 users were basically beta testers but caution guys...

I'm not so sure. The base code for the P990 and the P1 is the same. I guess time will tell...
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

?? Because you have to pay extra for GPS after you've bought the receiver? Is there some kind of licence fee?
Anyway, what shop is it?

The gps service costs 7,50 £ a month normally. (Includes free gprs for downloading maps)
Its the provider Telia's shops. (Where I work, I get 10% of )

it does have same base code with M600 not in P990. so P990 problems wont bug P1 users that's what i'm sure of it. |

I think the worst thing on P1i (all UIQ3 phone) is lack of software. Also, I am very disappointed on the hardware performance (specially graphics). According to my-symbian P1i reviews, the drawing triangles performance of P1i is well below Nokia's. |

As far as I know the P1 has the same base code as the other 3 UIQ3 phones, as well as more or less the same hardware. The difference with P990 is that it has additional routines to support operation with the flip.

if they have the same base code, then P990 software should work in P1/M600/W950 when flashed but it's not the main difference is hardwarewise so the base code should be different in order to be compatible. likewise M600 base code isl more of the same software aspect to P1 than in P990.

@razec,
My only real problem with the P1 is the lack of HSDPA and the fact it is still running the Nexperia chip, whilst I appreciate the Ram increase will have a dramatic effect on apps no longer closing. The modified OS has more options running such as the home screen and extra shortcuts.
I have asked about how fast it is? how long to boot up and be usable Marc SE who has a prototype has quoted approx 1min 20 secs am still awaiting on answer from others.
I would also like to know how long it takes to open the calendar and start inputting data?
Same for messages preferably E-Mail?
How long to start playing a video?
How long to open a page in the Web browser?
Is the P1 faster or slower than the M600?
Enquiring minds need to know.
Marc

The extra RAM in the P1 will have an insignificant effect on the speed of the device. It still uses the same hardware (i.e. processor, video chip etc.).
Let's look at the base software issue from this direction:
All current UIQ3 devices and P1 have Symbian 9.1 and UIQ 3.
The individual UIQ3 devices have different support programs (programmed by SE) that support device specific features, such as flip or the walkman theme.
I'm sure SE will try to get the P1 released with as many of the bugs on the wiki solved as possible and with the extra RAM it should not have the applications closing like on the current UIQ3 devices. However, the slowness will still be there. It could have been a lot different, with this much RAM if the P1 only had a faster processor...
