only time it sent me the wrong way was my own fault lol, forgot i'd set it to directions for walking through town before i set off driving home!! lol |

for anybody interested, i got my Holox BT-321 from;
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FUTURE-TRENDS
watch for the ones in 'auction format' not buy it now'
generally go for between £15 - £25, rather than £30,
got mine for £17, then with postage, postal insurance, and (tho i dont totally agree with it) the £3 priority service charge, just over the £29.99 buy it now price. |

Hi I currently use Wayfinder on my P990i but it constantly misses speed cameras even with the Cyclops database installed (at extra cost!) and my version of the traffic Info does not seem to be working at present either (another extra cost option!)
so I am considering Tom Tom ( yes I know it does not have trafic info!)
but my brother who has a TomTom 7 says you have to pay for map updates.
Is this the case with Tom Tom 6 for mobile?
can anyone here tell me what maps do you get with the TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 - Software & Maps of Western Europe on DVD? do they show known speed camera sites how do you get updates?
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

Glanbay, works in Ireland with the newest maps. (Called United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland v660.1199)
Nitro Fan, TomTom 7??? Do you mean TomTom Go 700/710?
Yes you do need to "buy" new maps.
You can get traffic updates, but like Wayfinder this does cost.
You could get TomTom's speed cameras, but you are better off with PocketGPSWorld. At least with these you can buy the updates when you want them.

@artesea,
maybe it is a 700 not sure!
Thanks for the info, I am arguing with Wayfinder over chargable extras not working now!

The big diffrence between wayfinder and tomtom is that wayfinder download the maps on the fly when you are out and driving and TomTom has tha maps locally installed on the mem chip. Thus making the drawing of maps much faster than wayfinder.. The upgrade cost for maps are something you need to do perhaps every second or thrice year if you want to have the latest maps, tip is to check the official site for what the changes are in the map version, if it have been added an lot of roads in country Z and nothing in country Y, and you live in country Y and never planning on visiting country Z perhaps you can wait one more version of the maps
Myself are running TomTom 6 with an wayfinder bluetooth GPS

Some advise please
If I buy 'TomTom NAV6 - on DVD' can I just copy the data from the DVD onto my own MS DUO PRO card, install it in the phone and go?
Have just purchased BT-321 given its recorded popularity |

You need to have the UIQ3 version of TomTom, to be able to install the program on the phone, the expansion maps are the same format as I can see on all different TomTom executables. |

The DVD comes with the UIQ3 software, best to use TomTom Home to install it on to the memory card though.

Just got my Holox BT-321, no problems here. It looks to be the 1 to get for guarenteed compatibility. |

Did anybody succeed in updating the version of TomTom Navigator using TomTom HOME? The UIQ3 version on DVD is 6.020, but there's now an update to 6.021 available. TomTom HOME perfectly downloaded this but does not want to install because \"Cannot remove TomTom Navigator from your mobile\". I even tried to deinstall using the phone itself, but that does not help either.
And as neither the P990i nor the M600i but only the W950i are supported by TomTom, their support does not help.
My last idea is to use a backup and replace the files of the backup with those of the 6.021 update, which comes in a .cab file and can thus be extracted. But I'd rather do it the official way.
Any ideas? |
