Greetings from the SA thread; I see our intrepid thread founder, brix, also frequents these 9ja parts, and it's great having some of you visiting the SA thread from time to time.

@ Egunje,
Bikes are my passion too. The Hayabusa remains the most awesome motorcycle that I have ever ridden. The broad, phenomenal torque curve and the acceleration it generates is something special.
There is a nice 80-odd km stretch of road in the Eastern Province of South Africa, between East London and a small town called Stutterheim. Along one of the straighter stretches of road along this route I experienced 280+kmh for the first time; it was a full-power '99 model capable of the magical 300 mark, not one of the later 'governed' models.
If a cow or anything had suddenly stumbled into my path at that speed, they would have been scraping my remnants off the tar with a spatula.
Sigh, love the adrenalin rushes.
BTW, that limited-edition,road-going Ducati Moto GP bike
http://www.motorcyclenews.com[....]articleCategory=NEWS_NEW-BIKES
that you are referring to (if you are one of the few lucky ones) is still 13 months of development away before the first customer gets theirs, so there's still time to save...

@Dawanqsta: 280+kmph? you must be crazier than I ever thought anyone could be. Thats exactly why I dislike bikes, no airbags or roll cage to protect you in the case of the inevitable accident.

@ amby,
Yes I guess it does seem to be a somewhat cretinous act, and I know that if I said that I only felt comfortable doing that speed due to the vast empty straight stretches of dry road ahead of me will not appease these notions much, but hey, it was fun in warped kind of way. The bike's handling is sublime, so it never felt that it was 'on the limit' in any way.
I enjoy the sheer and absolute acceleration and power of a machine like that under me.

Inevitable accident? No, I can't say I'll allow a word like 'inevitable' to sober my 2-wheeled pursuits; I'm not ignorant or dismissive of the possible dangers (at ANY speed); and despite the silly speed that day, I regard myself as a relatively safe superbike rider, as laughable as that sounds after stating a speed like that on the 'busa.
I have been riding for 16 years now and am still in one piece. How?
Utter respect for the machine and what it can do,knowing my abilities and limitations, acute awareness for possible dangers (a good peripheral vision comes into its own here..) and top-spec bike clothing (with things like carbon and kevlar-impreganted body armour etc.)have all helped.

I have a myriad of wonderful biking moments over the years and have met truly all walks of life within the biking sub-culture, and the fact that there is no rollcage or whatever does not make me feel that I am forever carelessly putting my life at risk; I truly feel 'at one' with a superbike.
Experiences out of comfort zones can also be so character-building and life-enriching...

Apart from this mutual interest in mobile phones, what other interests pre-occupy your time, Amby?

I'm also a speed freak, but of the four legged kind. The fastest I've ever gone was 210km/h in my 3rd gen Nissan maximaV6, but I'm thinking of installing an intercooler to see if I can exhaust the speedometer which tops out at 240km/h before I eventually sell the car.
I also love sports (soccer, tennis and golf)

when i was younger i used to like bikes but not now, my wife would not even let me go near an OKADA (commercial transport bikes)after what happened to a dear friend on one of these bikes, my passion for a machine as now turned towards cars,(at least a man has to like one form of machine or another i his short life on earth) now i am really passionate about cars, especially sporty and fast cars with good engines.

@all a friend sent this joke to me i feel i should share it with u all.

A SHORT LOVE STORY: there was a blind girl who hates herself because of being blind. She hates everyone except her boyfriend... One day the girl said that if she can see the world she will marry her boyfriend, one day someone donated eyes to her and then she saw everything including her boyfriend, her boyfriend ask her, "now that you can see, will you marry me?", the girl was shocked when she saw her boyfriend is also blind, and then she refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend walks away with tears and said, “Just take care of my eyes dear”.

LOL yeah, the man's a genius on two wheels, and I wouldn't mind I had a fraction of the world champ's natural talent. What the top GP guys do on a race track is truly amazing.
I think I'll stick to teaching...

Hope you get to see the Moto GP live from the UK this weekend; much hype and speculation. Should hopefully be edge-of-the-seat viewing again...

Now we're getting somewhere, as other PTO's are bound to follow suit.

I just wish Vmobile (or is it now Celtel?) would at least deploy EDGE and allow us test run it free for like 6months

@amawanqa: Good on you mate. Yes, thats the duke i was talking about.
@Amby: The busa does not cost 35k pounds more like 9k new and about 4k for a used '99 spec one.

The point of riding is to go irresponsible fast but there is no fight if not everyone likes it. That is as it should be.

I am still tring to scrap my pennies together and not let my "commander-in- chief" know what is happening untill like I said, its too late.

In the mean time, I have bought the repair manual, and will be ordering riding kit soon.

mum's the word.
