Yes, this could be a long topic in and of itself
But, there is a reason tone controls are provided on any decent consumer playback system.
Ok, we're all "sort of pointing in the same direction, using different paths", however your statement above still does not hold true of all "better" than decent hi-fi makers.
Actually I'd go as far to say that all top Amp makers (used to work in a hi-fi shop) do not have "any" tone controls", so are they wrong?
Chris
I agree, especially for audiophiles, but I guess I also understand whybe's "seasoning" argument. While I am a vanilla man myself (I like my music as it was produced generally), using EQ is like putting a colour filter over a photo with already perfect colour balance. But then John Lennon wore rose tinted glasses everywhere, so I guess if it's okay for John Lennon to "false colour" everything he sees, it's okay for people to false colour their music if it suits their sense of aesthetics.
It's 100% personal preference.

I'm not into Hi-Fi stuff, but, I can guarantee you that those amplifiers are touted for the tonal characteristics it imparts onto the sound--which is, in essence, it's frequency response (EQ), and dynamics handling. This is especially true with tube-based amps. So in effect, they have indeed manipulated the sound, they just took the controls out of your hands! So, in effect, your choice of Hi-Fi amp is also your choice of EQ. Same goes for speakers and to a lesser extent, the playback device. Most people don't know how to use EQ's...but that's another subject.
Also, another reason there are no tone controls, is because they may be expecting you to add your own separate EQ. This would most likely be of higher quality than anything built-in and it allows you the choice of EQ type. Professional amplifiers also have no tone controls built-in. It is expected that you would be supplying your own.

Very interesting how someone asking if there is an equalizer turn into such great information. I too like my music with equalizer turned off. However, I find the use of equalizer very useful for less than perfect equipment or when music source, pre-amp, amp, speakers are with different brand or when there is less than perfect room, etc.
I believe chances are that you cannot compare the phone to those expensive system and your earphone to those expensive speaker... oh dont forget those thick speaker cables too... so I guess equalizer for a phone doesn't hurt... besides, you can always leave it flat...

Whybe is correct in his posts. He knows what his talking about, unlike some other people here who are commenting...

A general question coming from an S60 background is it something of a steep learning curve to adjust to the X1?
I have been reading about this on various forums & this is the impression I get.

Personal perception and opinions aside, think we've cover this subject enough, so lets return this forum to the X1 discussion.
Reminder to those not following, the question was: "does the X1 have an equaliser?"
Answer: No. Other players are available for download though

Hi All,
Is anybody experiencing any problems installing Tom Tom 6 software on the X1??? it doesnt seem to be happening for me any one else having problems??
Also im really stuck between panels. I think its the battle etween looks and function. The SBP panel is easier to use cos you dont really need to use the stylus...and the xperia panel looks nicer with the analogue clock and flashy colours but is not as user freindly on the fingers.
Dont think there is the prefect panel that balances both aspects...any thoughts?

if you go install the sbp mobile shell or even install touchflow 3d on the x1 it shouldnt be a problem for you.. if you are just using the basic panel it can get quite confusing coming from an s60 device.. |

Does tha Touchflow Player has an equalizer?
Peace and thanks
No fraid not - I don't agree with them personally. Music is extensively mixed by professional when the original recordings are made, so why change it?
BTW - Volume level is very good. There is a bass boost of sorts, called "Audio Booster".
Chris
@the_mont:
Actually, professionals mix music "flat", meaning it is mixed full well knowing listeners are going to manipulate it with their equalizers or tone controls (Bass and Treble). Mixing flat ensures that their recording will sound best on the broadest range of playback systems (from iPods to Big stereo systems to car stereos). Listening to music with no equalization is like eating food with no seasoning...you can do it, but most people like to personalize it to their taste. I believe D-Southwest wants to add tons of bass (like me ). And no recording is going to give that sound without using an equalizer.
@D-Southwest:
Here are some applications listed on Handango that feature equalizers:
LCG Jukebox
Pocket Player
VITO Sound Explorer
I'm sure there are plenty others.
Thanks WhyBe
I like to listen to my favorite hiphop music with mega bass

I put tomtom 7 on no problems. Works fine. Now just have to sell my standalone unit.
As for panels, have been usinf touchflow 3d. Apart form a few niggles it runs smoothly. The spb one looks good but havent used it much.
Few queries tho. With touchflow 3d I can't seem to produce a playlist in the music menu. I click add playlist but nothing happens. Also the youtube link on the internet page doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix these issues? |

Thanks for the feedback, their does seem to be a lot of differing views on this. It seems to put some right off it. |
