I am so glad that all those brilliant brains out there stumbled upon that apple question for a while.
k4m!k4ze you are absolutely right. You haven't googled for it have you? 
The interesting part of that riddle is that if you try to solve it mathematically you would think it is an error as @Knight4led mentioned above. You have to visualise giving the apples. As k4m!k4ze said above if you give all apples from one basket you will have only one basket left after 50 steps and the you need to give only 1 apple from there on as you have only one basket of apples with you. As a matter of fact any number of baskets above 2 will provide you enough apples to give to the princess, that is why I specifically asked for the way you guys worked out the answer.

Another good one
The father is about to die. He sends for his 3 sons. When they arrive, he tells them that the wisest one will inherit his property and then he gives them
a task to see which one is the wisest. He tells them, "I will seat you
in a triangle so that each of you faces the other two. Then I will
blindfold you and paint either a blue or a yellow triangle on each of your
foreheads. When I remove the blindfolds each of you must raise your
hand if you see any yellow triangles, i.e. 1 or 2. As soon as you have
figured out what color your own triangle is, lower your hand and tell me."
So he seats them, blindfolds them, and then paints a yellow triangle on all
three foreheads. When the blindfolds are removed, all three hands go
up. After a long pause, one hand comes down and that son says, "Father, I have a yellow triangle."
How did he know?
PS: There are no mirrors, no other people there or anyting like that.

All the three raised their hands but how will that show you have an yellow triangle? Every one can see two of the others as they are seated in a triangle and you have to raise the hand even if you have seen only one yellow.

He figured it out because the others are having a hard time. If his triangle was blue then it would have been easier for the others to answer. The others would right away know that they had yellow because all of them raised their hands.

This statement need not be true, since one will raise hands even if there is one or two yellows, you see.

Answer 1] It is infinite number of times? Coz we are talking beyond Zero, towards negative, right?
Else, it is 5 times.. 9-2= 7-2= 5-2= 3-2= 1-2= -1
