It's so hard to tell right now. Don't have much hope. Remember, these are basicly SE phones with SE drivers. Sony's influence in camera dept. will probably only be felt in 2H 2012 models or even later
Sony's influence in camera software has been obvious from the start given how heavy the noise reduction has been all this time. Sony makes great cameras, but the JPEG output on them are abysmal especially at higher ISO. Not because the sensors or optics are bad (Sony's sensors are definitely best-in-class and their optics are passable at worst), but because their software processing is terrible. |

Like I've said the camera module is mediocre.. same quality like xperia Arc. Me and many users need good camera... ( what happened with sony. (( SONY PLEASE PUT A DECENT MODULE , CAMERA AND SOFTWAre OR YOU will loose all customers who were cybershot addicted.. SONY (SONYERICSSON) never learnt from mistakes they did in the past..
If those pictures are good... then I AM gollum from LORD OF the RINGS... and please don't tell me is a prototype unit.. Last year I told you from prototype test samples than nothing will change in final version and I was right.. Now I tell you same thing.. I am dissapointed....

I don't understand why every single comment on Phonearena is praising the Xperia S/Ion cameras so much if the camera performance on both is really "awful" "average" and "shitty" |

honestly, phonearena's ION/S samples looked great, especially since those were shot indoors with poor lighting. the quality reminds me of Satio so it may easily outperform every 8mp cameraphones right now
^^ anyone who thinks I'm trolling should look at this and this

+1
I don't see any other Android device with a better camera this year from anyone else (except Sony 2H 2012 flagship) Overall, I feel Xperia S is the best device yet. And IMO it is not horribly outdated compared to the competition overall, except for the CPU. And it more than makes up for the "slower" CPU with other features that the competition does not offer. Sony Video & Music unlimited, Playstation certification , GLONASS, superior camera with super fast photo capture, the "smart" accessories, the gorgeous UI and fast updates (going by last year) coupled with an eye catching design could lead to much better sales for Sony this year. Especially since they are pushing the devices in the North American market and also Japan a lot more this year than previous years.
Also the fact that the Xperia S/Ion could be sold via Sony Style online store in NA is also very promising.

I agree, judging by the samples taken in poor light S performs quite well. There's still some colour noise but it's much better than in the 2011 Xperia line-up's cameras. I guess we should wait until the phone is released and reviewed so we can see some better pics.

as far as the image quality is concerned i see good details and processing but except nose. there are nose but acceptable.. it pulls more details.. as its indoor shot without flash. i feel its great for a camera phone.... i've N8 and it will not perform better than this..
we are yet to see the outdoor shots.. i thought it'll excel.. arc it totally bad in post processing.. staircase effect in outdoor pics..less details, too bad... |

that's interesting...
looks like a wireless universal remote app for your phone that determines what you want to control based on proximity to the device? As the person walks toward something, it can be controlled by the "DOT"? not sure how it would work in a room full of devices at similar distances though.. but i'd like to see more of this!
