Moto and iTunes seem to be the main competition.
Do you think Apple might start to influence the design of Moto Music handsets? |

Well remember that Apples plans on bringing a mobile device designed in conjunction with Motorola, so the possibility is almost inevitable.
Judging from the deals being signed now between Moto and Apple, i think we are going to see this as common place from now on.
However, don't forget Sony on the other hand has quite a bit of consumer electronics design behind them and they are also @ the forefront aesthetics.
So will draw on that strategic alliance too.

What UMD's, surely they aren't going to develop a brand new format just for the PSP, especially when they said they will be announcing movies on them soon, and when you see phones like the W31S.
As mentioned above I think that SD cards will more than likely be the case
And it won't be the Clara, it will be the slider

The possiblity of pro fun can never be ruled out. As we have seen from p905, it is all in the fw. So we cant know for sure unless the phone comes out. The walkman phone will have a proper 3.5mm jack, and some dedicated player buttons, like the d500.(i hope) and may be a small cam like the s700i. The walkman phone also will have usb support for sure, and the internal mem may go well beyond 250 mb.

@Batesie, Yeah I can see why that would make sense as it is a whole new range and W*** makes sense to me.
USB port and stereo jack. Very useful. I really think the new Walkman phones will be proper dual-use devices and not just a new handset with a Walkman sticker on it. I hope so anyway. |

Oh gosh! This product is gonna flop! I have been thinking and reading this thread, and i'm saying, this may flop big time. The p910 now offer quality music with 1gb cards, pretty much all you need. Unless the new phones put in some serious hardware for music processing, i dont see it go any where. Even with it, i dont think so. Within next 6 months, the 1gb and 2gb cards are gonna get cheaper. Even if they are putting a software based processing into this phone, 3rd party apps are gonna get much better.

Sorry, i beg to differ. How can it be a trend setter? Ppl are already using phones as mp3 players on the move, and these, phones are doing a good job. Particularily the p910. With a fat mem stick, it really can do the job. And these new phones are pathetic. It has only around 700mb of memory! What use is it when it comes against 2gb sticks? I can see 5gb mem sticks in not too distant future. The only thing it can have is a better player with hardware and dedicated buttons. The present p910 does a decent job

@goviv:
If you read the press release carefully, you wil notice that there are going to be dedicated audio processors built into the chipset for the phones being released this year. The phones will use the Nexperia chipset from Philips...remember that post?
Anyway, the audio/video processing is going to get a major boost from these new cipsets so i think its a step in the right direction. I don't think that these phones will be a flop, i tink they will sell rather fast, judging from the success of the walkman and its hardware.

See hyper.... It is a very bad move to concentrate solely on a market dominated by very big players. It will get stiff competition from ipod and its own players. Compared to these, even with the latest av chipset is not a step in the right dir'n. These chipsets will only help SE in future releases of its phones which support 3g. For now ppl will be satisfied with a proper mp3 player (which is a very dominant market) and for the rest, a pda phone with mp3 player will solve it. It will help SE in the long run
