Access internet on PC using Hutch GPRS |

Nay. I am from Bangalore. But i guess the settings are all the same.
How do you connect your phone to the PC?. Using Bluetooth?.Will it make the speed any better?. i want the word from the horses mouth before i can buy myself one... |

Its actually got to do with your ip as well as your apn. In normal wap gprs connection your apn+ip combo wont allow you to view web sites. In igprs your apn will allow a direct conection to internet without even an ip accordin to wat i now. When you use proxy you basically bypass your wap gateway so many things change:
1) You have web access
2) Faster connection coz proxy servers are buffer servers
3) Wap gateway limit removed...in case of hutch it used to be 300KB, now i can easily dl 2-3MB files on mobile
4) I use the my tweaked settings as mms profile as well and now i can send any mms(till 100KB) while earlier it wont send anythin over 10KB
The speed you get will be slow in the day but very fast at night...its actually as fast if not more than the actual sppeds on a 56kbps dial-up...at nights my connection speeds is approx 25-30kbps and downloads at 48-64kbps usin free download manager.
EDIT: I connect usin bluetooth but i dont think movin from irda to bluetooth will help you in terms of speed coz the bandwidth you'll receive can never go above 114kbps(theoritical max gprs speed) which should come well within the max irda speed(irda speed is 9.6kbps to 4mbps unless i'm very mistaken) so there shouldnt arise a case where your mobile isnt able to tranmit data to pc at the rate with which its receivin it.

You mean i can tweak the settings in my mobile so that i can get a higher speed?Im sorry i didnt quite get what you mean by tweaking the settings. I think anything above 10 Kbps speed on a mobile is stupendous... Way to go pal... |

Tweaked means this proxy thing(btw turnon header compression in your mobile data settings). During the daytime the connection is very unreliable...sometimes its ok, sometimes its dead slow BUT at night its damn good...gets all my work done n i can download a lot of stuff without any problems. Its just a mindset actually which makes it seem very strange that such speeds can be extracted out of gprs but in actality its a very capable technology, look at edge mate...it you do the same with an edge connection your speeds will be in the range of 150+kbps ie faster than any bradband connection(which promise 256/512kbps but give a max of around 50/100kbps) in india n all this just with a small mobile phone...its quite amazin actually.

When i use a proxy server(10.10.1.100;9401 in case of hutch) it bypasses the wap gateway so the earlier limit doesnt apply. All people on o2(n maybe other networks) get charged dependin on how much data they transfer via wap gateway n by usin proxy they get free wap  |

Yes i understand the GPRS is a very capable technology. Im just hoping that the Hutch Guys dont find this game. Its not that i dont want to pay more but not at the rate of 50 paise per kb. That is absolute madness...

Very correct man...i can gladly pay upto 200pm for unlimited igprs but this 50p/kb is well as you put it...madness!! |

@week.. On that infrared vs bluetooth thing.. I think the browsing speeds will be same.. I'm saying this because i connect using bluetooth and a friend of mine using infrared.. The speed difference is very little.. With bluetooth basically it is a matter of convenience i.e.. No line of sight stuff required and the range is better.. But for file transfers bluetooth is a much better deal

A USB 2.0 compliant device can transmit data at a higher rate than a USB 1.1 compliant IR to PC adapter. I have the latter one and that i feel is the problem. anyways its always good to experiment..??? |
