yeah mine is giving the same message about the backup battery
its a NiMH rechargeable battery and I guess it will get charged when the main battery has been fully charged
edit: yep, the backup battery is now charging too
this is mention in the i-mate JAM FAQ (you'll need to be a member to see that I think)
Q: Does the i-mate™ JAM have a Backup Battery?
Yes, it has separate rechargeable backup battery 25mAh. It works only when you remove the Main Battery and it will last for about 20 to 30 minutes, assuming it is fully charged.
Note 1 : Before using your Device please make sure to charge your i-mate™ JAM for at least 8 Hours for the first time (this is required for the Backup Battery to fully charge).
Note 2 : When the very Low Battery Warning message appears, immediately save any data you are working on, perform a synchronization with your PC, then turn off your JAM. If your device does shut down, the Backup portion of your main battery will protect data for 72 hours.
To view the Battery status : Start > Settings > System > Power
Always keep the Power level for the Backup Battery greater than 50%. The back up battery will charge up from the main battery under normal circumstances.
If you remove the Main Battery, the Backup Battery can only keep your data safe for 20 minutes, when it is 100% charged. Replace the Main Battery as soon as possible, after inserting the SIM card

This is such a cool phone, remember your review masseur, Also this back up battery sounds useful what a great Idea, I really thought I'd get this phone, but the price tag is too expensive for me and Orange don't seem to be getting it.
So I'm probably going to upgrade to the 6630 in the coming weeks, and I think that will be a good thing for me, as I have the K700i as my main phone at the moment.
Sorry, I am just thinking aloud, Charlie.

thanks, its a great little device. I've only had one problem so far and that is getting avantgo to work. on my iPAQs Avantgo just works after you do the first synch but that didn't happen with the Jam and I had to download the Avantgo client from their web site and I am not convinced I should have had to do that
do you use Avantgo and if so did it work out of the box or did you have to install the client?

my first couple of pics. I just snapped these with the out-of-the-box settings and at 1.3 megapixel resolution. they look a little blurry IMHO but it is a misty day. I'll have to play with the settings to see what can be changed

i havent used avantgo yet... but i was similar problems with some desktop replacements.... they all say the werent designed for this version fo ppc.. but teh sites say ppc 2003 se compatible...... strange.....
but with ur problem... it might be the a fresh install... these softwares have reg. upgrades to avoid piracy and maybe ur out of box software might be just valid for one install |

The pics look alriight, I am sure they'd be better in a brighter environment!
Looks like a great phone though but I think I am going to settle for the 6630, still looks good though!
