I spoke to someone I know that said he'd unlock my K700i for 10 quid. http://www.gizmo-direct.com/ but you'll probably have to pay the full price.
It's stupid though, I don't see why I should have to do this, but as I have no choice...

I know what you mean about the security questions, they have asked me twice in this same query for my security details. My name list so far includes
Balvinder Kaur
Divya Kumari x2
Nitin Gupta
It's obvious that this is being dealt with from abroad, i wouldn't mind at all as long as they knew the f**k they were talking about.
I really don't know what do do, this certainly is not the kind of level of service I expected and I think it's outragous.

I doubt you'd get more than 200 quid for it. And then what would you do with the rest of your year's contract?
I'm just gonna unlock it, cancel my contract when it comes to the end of the year, and buy a F700i from CPW when it comes out. That is, obviously assuming that it'll be out for June 2005. If it's gonna exist at all... |

o2 has transferred their call centers to India (just like everyone else). Most of those kids who answer the phone make around 2 quid per hour! Now you know why they are idiots (you get what you pay for)...
25 quid is absurd for an unlock. I'll do an unlock, firmware upgrade to R2L001, and full unbranding (decustomization) for about 19.5 quid (total) + return shipping. The only problem is that I don't really do business internationally (I stick within the USA), unless the other party is willing to pay for express mail when I return the phone.
As for used K700's (especially locked/branded), they go for about 167 quid on eBay now (on the low end)...

Folks,
If you want to email someone in the UK, try O2DataSupport@O2.com
I got this reply from them:
"I have spoken to Sony Ericsson who advised that if you need to upgrade the software version of your mobile handset you will need to call the below number, if there is a specific problem you are having please mail back as we may be able to solve it without having to modify the software."
Strange that - Sony Ericsson told me to talk to O2! Anyway, it might be worth emailing your issues to the above address - they might (unlikely) get the message!

Anyone with an O2 firmware upgrade problem please email O2DataSupport@O2.com
I've just got another reply - it appears that someone at O2 is looking at the problem! The more ppl email hopefully the more likely O2 might do something about it...
Reply:
"I am looking into this at present at what stage does the Sony Ericsson site give these errors? I have attempted to replicate and get to download the 12 MB .exe file. I have not attempted to fully download but I am curious as to whether you can get past this point?
When I logged into the site I selected support and then the K700i, after that I selected the Sony Ericsson update and was asked to confirm my OS and that I have enough space on my machine, sync cradle attached etc
I then get the license agreement which I accept and I then get the file transfer window.
Please Advise"

Good old Tommy! I got exactly the same email!!
Looks like we have an alternative solution now anyway... just remove the O2 branding using the info in this thread:

I'm confused now as I got the same e-mail as above from 'Sameer Das' my DSS-20 should arrive today so I'm going to give it a go but I won't be expecting it to work as I have a branded phone.
Guess the only other option for me is to send it in for an upgrade... I assume this is possible with o2? |

I too sent an email to O2 data support, and got the following reply. Hopefully, the message will be starting to get through.........
Hello Lee
I have investigated the problem and the issue regarding the Sony Ericsson automatic update has been raised with the o2 Products team. I currently await an update, as soon as I have this information I will contact you to advise on the situation and advise on any progress we have made with the o2 products team and Sony Ericsson.
Unfortunately I have not been given any timescales as to when a fix will be in place as the fault still needs to be diagnosed and a solution found but I will keep you posted as soon as any updates arrive.
Kind Regards

My original note.......
Hi,
There appears to be some confusion around whether 02 users of the K700i phone are able to use Sony Ericsson's online update service. Can you confirm what the current status is? I don't really wish to purchase a Syncstation unless I'm sure the upgrade can be performed. I believe that phones from Vodafone and Orange are able to be upgraded online with no problems. I believe Sony Ericsson have made a great step forward in offering this servce to its customers, and hope that 02 are equally keen to provide good customer service.
Best regards,
Lee |

@leerichards, I got the same message from Tommy @ O2 Data Support.
Folks, I think anyone who doesn't want to spend £10(ish) on a T28 service cable and then £8 to update their phone should email O2 data support. The more who query the problem the more likely they'll get the message... |

Same reply here, guess the people who are complaining to O2 are all called Lee!
