JohnM - whats your expectations in the S65 ?

Hope they arent to high .......cause imho it have a few downsides to it.

But I guess it all depends on what you want it for.

Best things that can be said are:
BIG screen - visible in daylight
Good calendar and contactbook
Good filesystem
Good camera under perfect outdoors daylight conditions - but not as good as other 1.3mp cameras like S700 and N6630
Nice design

From there on - its rather downhill..........
Screenresolution low with pale colors
Expandable memory with no use at all except for storing pictures - no support for mp3, no games/applications can run from memorycard, videos cant run smooth from memorycard because of slow memory I/O, no ringtones on memorycard. Everything has to run from internal memory which is only 11mb and thats not enough for ringtones, games, videos, etc.
Poor and slow bluetooth implementation at only 8-9kb/s transferrate - no voicedialing either.
Camera very poor under any other conditions than perfect daylight.
Videoplayback only support AMR audio - sounds terrible
Limited videorecording
No radio.
Crashing
Poor batterylife
Slow java - Support 3d java - but they run at like 8fps - which is completely unplayable.
Did I mention no mp3 ? only low bitrate mono wav not suited for musicplayback (they are definately ok for ringtones though)

I only had the S65 for testing 2 days - but to me its not a powerphone but rather a basic phone, at a reasonable price. On the other hand If you dont care for the things Ive mentioned - then its a good phone for the price.

Will be interesting to hear what your experience with it will be.

Well so far i have had no problems with the S65 and have been presently impressed by it. i would like to point out i like both SE and Siemens phones. I'm not slating either manufacturer so no need for SE die-hards to flame me or anything, after all guys, they are only phones! Well anyone who wants to know anything about the S65 ask away. Thanks.

oh no - no flaming intended at all. And I will honestly be interested in your experience with the phone. Listening objectively to what other peoples experiences are, often open my eyes for ideas and opinions I didnt think off before. And I definately also like alot of different brands, Im not brandfanatic - Im more into different devices or functions no matter the brand. So please do tell us about your experiences and opinions - you wont get any flaming from me because of that - I promise

Does it have the same adapter socket like the S55 eg. Would the S55's charger work with it! If so then its the same datacable ;-) which could get from ebay!

I have the s66 (US cousin of the s65) and I'm not too impressed compared to other phones but it's considered a mid-range phone which would be nice. It does take nice/decent pix indoors but it looks crappy on the phone's display. I transferred that picture to the s700 and it looked very nice.

i've tried using the s65 and k700 because my hospital companions got them and i must say se could learn from siemens in this field. in my experience, the s65 is better than the k700i. better get the s700 over the k700 to get the same results as the siemens.

well, as this thread creator.....i must say that s65 impresses me. im not an mp3 or a radio in phone user. actually i have both phones now and im mostly using s65. i also created a thread which im swapping my k700 to another s65 because my brother likes it and he will trade his e397 if i got the other s65...unfortunately it didnt happen. i have nothing againts k700 actually it is nice and the screen is bright like a japanesse coloured phone. but comparing the pics when transfered to a PC..ill go for the S65.

Why is it better ? in what way ? What could SE learn from Siemens ?

Youre not really saying anything here

If you are only talking about camera - then obviously the 1.3mp camera in S65 is better than the VGA cam in K700 - but I dont really see what SE should learn from that - if you compare cameras you should compare cameras with the same resolution and thus shouldent compare S65 cam with K700 cam - but instead S65 cam with S700 cam (both being 1.3mp) - and here S700 clearly wins.

Surely S65 with 1.3mp has a better camera than k700 which is only VGA - but just having a better camera doesnt make it the better phone.

Except for the camera - which is obvious - I dont see anyone come up with some good reasons why the S65 is a powerphone better than K700.

Just looked at this thread: http://www.club-siemens.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=43124
Is that the best you can expect from S65 camera-wise? Please.. my V3 VGA-camera takes pictures as good*bad* as these?!
There goes the camera argument...
Besides, what good is the big display when fonts and icons are jagged? Itīs like running a 21" monitor at 800x600 and even my 13-year old stepdaughter think the keys are puny and fiddly. IMO the S65 is no match for the K700.

JohnM Please donīt take any of this personal! I hope you will be very happy with your S65! Iīm simply venting my opinion here.
Cheers!

There is definitely something wrong with the S65 camera, also on club-siemens someone compared the S65 to one of the budget models with a camera, and the budget one was far better, the S65 camera should be a lot better than it is.

http://www.club-siemens.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=42355

They're not labelled but the grainy ones are the S65 shots.

The quicker people realise that there's more to cameras than just their sensor resolution, the better.

John

I just wondered if any S65 owners have trouble press the lower buttons like '0'. It looks very danerous as it could possibly slip out your hand surely.

With the K700i you have the Quickshare rubber sticker to help this.

Any comment?
