Could i just ask why people are suggesting blocking out the plates?? I bought my car from a Peugeot Dealer on the net... The car was on the Official Peugeot used car web site, and all the photo's they were displaying were showing number plates... Surely if it was sooo dodgy they would block out the plates? There's just as many dodgy people walkin the earth that could easily take note of my number plate as there is on the net...

One possible reason to keep your plate obscured from view, is to avoid 'cloning'. If someone wants to avoid e.g. the congestion charge (in London), or avoid speed cameras, they simply need to spot a car of the same make, model and similar colour as their own, then have a number-plate made with your numbers and fit it, thus you will receive all their fines.
You might think this is a bit far-fetched, however there are hundreds of thousands of unregistered and uninsured drivers in the UK. You could also think that it's quite a bit of trouble to go to. Trust me, there are so many dodgy car dealerships/garages in London where you can have a plate made up while you wait for 20 quid. Additionally, if the police catch the fraudulent drivers, they are summoned to the Magistrate's Court (where at worst they'll be fined), and if they don't turn up, that's pretty much it until they get pulled over another time, at which point they will simply be issued with a further summons.
