The phone is not "locked" to the network per se, but the sim card. This means you can only use a SIM card form AT&T. However the phone will still work in Singapore if you plan to use the AT&T sim card but via autoroaming. If you autoroam, you can connect to a Singapore network even if your SIM is locked to AT&T.
My question:
BUT, I don't want to roam via AT&T Wireless (they don't offer roaming in SG anyway) because I don't want to use my US phone number. Instead, I was hoping to subscribe to a Singaporean carrier while I'm in Singapore so that I would have a local Singaporean number. However, Singtel warned me that I wouldn't be able to use my phone if it's locked! Am I missing something here?

Yes, I did chase him on the MMS upgrading. He told me Singapore SE
will not release the MMS sw so soon. This is due to they want to launch the T68i first. If they allowed the upgrading of the T68 to MMS version now, than all of us will buy the T68 for free upgrading than buying the T68i. Because the T68 price will be definitely cheaper than T68i. So who wants to buy the T68i then?
Sorry I forgot to answer your question dairin, He told me the T68 launching in Singapore till now is less than a year, so it is still under warranty, therefore the upgrading should be free. So far he did not received any instruction from SE Singapore yet on the charging.

If they SE does not give us the upgrade in singapore before launching the T68i, I dont think that anyone will want to buy another SE mobile phone anymore! Because the support is BAD and they are only thinking of selling T68i and not supporting existing costomer.
Anyway I think that most people will definately buy T68i rather then buying a T68m and upgradding it. So I dont think that SE will have to worry about anything. Personally T68i looks much better then T68m.

Well, this is their marketing stratergy. Normally new customer will get better benifits than old customer. Take one of our service provider, they always give good benifits, good terms and conditions to attract new customers. They did not take care of their old loyalty excisting customers. This is marketing man.
As to decide to buy a T68 and upgrade or to buy a new T68i is depended on individual thinking. Some are cost concious. They do not mind about the outlook of a handphone as long as they can get the same function and at a cheaper price. Why not. But of course there are some people would like to get the latest models in regardless of the pricing. That is the reason a lot of the handphone manufacturers
keep pushing out new models with new functions within a few months later after they had launched their previous models to attract these people. |

clody - it should not be a problem to use the t68m battery witht t68i as it is the same battery. to be sure, why don't you just call up the ericsson service centre to double check? |

If that is the case you can't. You can buy the local prepaid SIM cards which you can top up, and that would give you a local number. But in that case you are changing your phone sim card ... and that AT&T (if the phone is locked) will not allow you to do.
You can check to see if your phone is locked by using the >*< <*<* keypad tap on your T68 and check the SIMLOCK info. If all the padlocks are open you are ok ... phone not locked Good luck! |

Not very sure about their site though, why not e-mail them or call them?
Anyway does anyone know where they sell cheap original T68 batteries? or even better, sell T68i batteries. |
