in o2 shops now it is without a doubt 3 months-unfortuantly some gimps in the shops who want an easy sale and then pass the buck say amonth-which is why customer services take so long to get through cos limp dicks in stores (not mine) give out wrong info- so yeah if somebody in a shop does say 1 month get them to write it on the contract then get the manager to sort it out! problem solved to an extent.... |

right, what a tosser! i would go back in and demand it then, take it back in with contract, box and everything and stay until its done. i know this seems as though im back tracking but the way i work and my staff is that if someone says something they make sure its correct and if not then they fix it- not me-cos they should not make mistakes after all the training and warnings from head office.
which store was it? god help you if its in london. thieving gypsy southern poofters..
just another thing- did they put it though a computer and print off a lovely printed contract or was it on messy paper. cos if on computer then hehehehe the manager has some work to do, if on paper then it should be easier for him. (different service providers-dise versus gateway) |

At the risk of being unpopular, I think I have to agree with the harrypotter dood. As a student, my instincts and bloodhound nose for bargains is as sharp as anyone else's. However, I think a balanced sense of fair play is called for here. The deal being offered by O2 is very competitive, IMHO - probably the best going.
A balance has to be struck between the companies recovering the initial outlay for the phone and allowing for consumers to exercise some flexibility in their price plans. Free phones with one year (or 2 even in singapore) contracts with fixed tarriff for 12 months VERSUS flexible (change every week if you like) tarriff but where we pay for the handset outright.
Whether the 3 month limit gets this balance right is of course up for debate.
Of course, as has been pointed out many times, there is no clause in the T&C that states the fixed period. My hunch is clauses like that are commercially unworkable and a big disincentive to users. However if a pattern emerges whereby they get ripped off on expensive handsets, I am sure this is a clause that will find its way in quickly.
Further, I am not sure if it is so crystal clear that you have a legal right to a downgrade either.
I just think people should take the offer as the find it - ie 45/month for 3 months at least for a free phone. If you try to downgrade before that and it doesnt work, well tough really. If you jump on a train in a penalty fare area and you dont get caught, well and good, but if you do, sometimes its better just to shrug and pay the tenner (or whatever it costs to get a ticket).
I understand people can get touchy on this issue, so my aplogies if I have offended anyone. Like I said, I am as keen as the next guy to "do a deal", especially as I dont sit on a tonne of cash.

what about trying to use the price printed as a price match in another store? what stores do price match? |

@buzz, bargains dont exist in the "Off line handset" market, to get cheap phone you have to be prepared to play the "Contracts market".
Its works like this, a big company buy phones from SE, then sell them to people for less because they are stupid,
