Just came back from SE service centre, and to my surprise the guy said the latest software is R1L! I told him all about R3B and R3C and he never heard of them! He also said that they have a direct link with SE in sweden so they would have had the latest software if it was released! |

Perhaps you have a localized/customized version of the firmware?
...or perhaps their link to is not as good as he says...

One of the service centres near me, the one in Brighton, is like that. He always reckons I have a later version than he does or that he knows about. I reckon he just can't be bothered doing upgrades. I still call him everytime just so I can laugh at his pathetic service! (not that I am vindictive or anything!)

I don't think it's customized... might be that the arabic version has not been released yet. Though R1L didn't take that long to be released. |

When I come to my local service center, they don't usually know that the update is available yet, but they do the update... So, whenever they see me, they ask if a new firmware version has come out

they usually like to tell you 5hours or some bs time
to make sure they have enough 'rest' inbetween jobs lol
j/k i am sure ppl at SE service centres work very hard
the actual time to do the 'upgrading' is only 5min
i did this when upgraded to R1L, i forgot to give them my phone lock pin, and i didn't have another contact number (phone was with them duh... ) and when i returned 5 hours later like they asked they told me needed the phone lock pin, i apologised and gave it to them, phone came on, upgraded and was in my hands within 5 min
cheers!
gonna do R3C soon
one day i will come up with something funny and witty and related to sex, until then it will be this |

When doing software upgrade, one does not need neither your SIM PIN nor your phone lock code. They can load the new software revision and then enter the system menu to check if it is all fine. You don't need a sim-card to enter this menu and I doubt that I would ever give my personal codes to anyone.

p.s. May be they tried another SIM card on your phone? Why is this? Another thing is that they wanted to be sure that everything is fine after the upgrade, but on the other hand they can check almost *everything* in the system menu and they can also dial 911 or 112 to check if the phone is dialing-out.

You can't call an emerency number just to check if the phone is dialing out!
...or you can, but you most definetly should not, so I doubt they would use it for testing...
@agnesx
They don't need your phone lock code. I have a phone lock code on mine. They have never asked for it, I have never given it to them. They don't insert a SIM card while upgrading either....

I use my voicemail number if I am checking the quality of my signal, not that I do that very often! |

Yes, you're right. That was a bad example. It is because in Bulgaria none of these 2 numbers work, I wrote them before thinking. Sorry. And what kind of emergency number is "08"?
