T610 - R1L software is out |

@ Masseur - I did get my vodafone branded phone knowing it had branded for the last 5 times, but not the first, ok, the story goes:
I have been on the network for about a year and a half, so I thought i would upgrade seeing as my bills had been massive, I'll get it pretty cheap. so, I upgrade to the Nokia 6100, but I didn't like it, too, um, Nokia (I have had Nokias in the past, but I love my T68 - and i prefer the old Nokias, they try to be too clever now)
anyway
I took that back under the 14 day return policy, and changed it for a Panasonic DB-87, which I thought was ok, but not good enough, the texting facilities are rubbish, and its not a great phone.
So...
Took that back, salesman talked me into getting a Sharp GX-10, and that was rubbish, so i took that back (they knew me by now, same shop each time) but as i took this back, I told them I wanted to cancel the upgrade and just carry on on my tarrif as usual till the new phone came out.
Then!
The T610 came out, this is the phone I had been waiting for, I guess I can't complain because the upgrade fee was £0, but I can complain because it's Vodafone. Anyway, I took it back 4 times because they all had faults, and by the time I heard that the software couldn'd be changed without voiding the warranty and meaning i couldn't upgrade my firmware, I was 15 days into my latest phone (I couldn't take it back because I was in Birmingham, and the shop I had to take it to was in Windsor)
So..
I am stuck with it, not a bad thing, I guess, but I really want it to be unbranded (the stickers on the front and back don't really bother me, it's the way they messed with the menus etc.)
One thing, how often do the Firmware upgrades come out?
I thought that i could wait till the upgrades have come out, get it flashed, then get the Voda stuff removed.
I can't see why, however, I can't just get the Menus etc. removed, then get the stickers off, then get the firmware of the standard T610 put on. Also, if the firmware and menu system are stored in different places, it seems, why do they have to have different firmwares??
Any help would be most appreciated as this is driving me insane because I wanted to leave vodafone and go to O2, Can we start a petition to have it all removed?? I'm so angry about it!
....
Please?

Wow, this is like my longest post ever!
Something on a more serious note:
@ Cytech - What do you mean?
--------------------------------------------------
if you some how manage to get your phone un-branded with an ordinary firmware, the technicians can see it, if they turn on the phone... if they just upgrade it without looking, you'll get back the Vodafone firmware...
--------------------------------------------------
'if they upgrade it without looking' - so, if i remove the branding (inside and out) getting my phone's firmware flashed with the lates SONYERICSSON release will bring back the Voda stuff?
but...
I thought that the menus and stuff were on a different area of the phone's memory, so surely flashing it with the supposed voda firmware won't actually make a difference??

the difference are:
the standby clock with new font but still is hard to see the clock..
network signal with darker color
the menu system work more better (faster)
no more lagging with the polyphonic + picture (when u received call)
added 1 language (Bahasa Malaysia)
*.gif (screensaver) more smoother
etc...

From the things I've been reading on the different forums I see that there is not much known about in what way the VodaFone branded T610 is beeing recognised bij the standard upgrading procedure.
If it is (like Cytech says) a different TAC number then (I think) the normal upgrading procedure will fail (because S/// has built a check on these numbers in their upgrading software).
Now is my next question:
Isn't it possible to change language pack on your phone ?
As far as I understand is the TAC used for recognising the language setting for that phone and will a normal firmwareupdate automaticly take the corresponding Firmware (In our case the VodaFone branded one).
I've read on alt.cellular.ericsson that SE Service Center is able to change the Language Pack for you, ater which the VodaFone stuff is gone.
Can anyone, who has more insight in this matter, comment on this ?

@Jammydodger
if you compare Vodafone firmware and the ordinary firmware you will see some differences in the menus...
@ZenBee

351252 and 351252 are the most common tac numbers for T610, these numbers can be upgraded with most language versions, except the language versions with chinese language support. |

Sorry but i don't understand some things!
I have a Vodafone branded T610, can I go to a SE service point and upgrade to R1L?
If I get my phone flashed (erase vodafone things) can I upgrade every time it goes out a new firmware? Or since I flash my phone I will not ever be able to upgrade it? |

thats what i've been trying to ask, but there has been about 50/50 answers either side!
at the moment, it seems like the answers no, but i just managed to get the red crap off the phone case, and if i take it to somewhere to remove the branding, how will they know?
especially if i take it to a carphone warehouse, they didnt ask any questions when i took my T68 in to be upgraded, they just took it.
Ill just probably take it there again, should work.
i guess you could do it yourself, there are websites selling 'logs' im not quite sure how firewood helps, but hey
ok, that was lame, but i dont understand it, anyone help?

So ... R1L does not fix the BT static... or just partial..
Does R1L just lower your vol loudness ?

i also noticed that business cards sent from a nokia is already recognized as a business card and would automatically ask you to save it in your phonebook... in the older version the business card will come in as a text message |

Got mine upgraded this morning and I confirm the volume is the same and the BT static is still there although its sound appears to have changed a little so it sounds continuous than a crackle but quieter at least on my HBH-30.
