@ADV, it might be a good idea to add a GPRS services and rate comparison page to your geocities site, that seems to be the hot topic now. Have you seen the ad for Smart's "Addict" post paid plans? Someone in that company must be on crack cocaine for even thinking of that.

Catchy name!however the rates are quite low especialy for mms downloads frm their site:php5 vs 15-20 glb/smart/sun.For example plan 600-it has 75 minutes free calls and 300 peso value consumable(where all ur mms, gprs, sms, info on demand usage will be deducted).

There's only ONE 3G standard and that's UMTS.
The operators can use different implementations to conform to UMTS - and there's two major candidates - CDMA2000 and WCDMA (FOMA by NTT DoCoMo in Japan).

But just cuz a phone conforms to UMTS 'standards', doesn't mean they're interoperable. A WCDMA phone will not work on a CDMA2000 network...will it? (I'm really asking)
I'm sorry, but I'm a non-believer of 3G... I think it will be the next Satellite Phone...Just like Iridium, Global Star, and ACeS. They're all still alive, but they never took off the way they promised (the 'One World, One Phone' campaign) |

well, if you are really doubting about the technology per se, then don't worry about it. maybe, a cdma player would come and give better and cheaper services, but do you expect it to be better than gsm? then try it first so you can see for yourself. =) peace! |

jplacson, due to manufacturer lobbying, CDMA2000 and WCDMA are not interoperable (their implementations differ) unless both of them (the proponents) agrees (highly doubtful) on the implementation. compatibility-wise, CDMA2000 appears superior as it is natural upgrade from CDMA One and can overlay on GSM Networks. WCDMA is much more different than GSM than CDMA2000 is to CDMA One, but that's where the Europeans are going (and Japan did).
By the way, UMTS specs not only covers the phone, but the other way around - the network.
jazzbo, agree ako dyan sa proposal mo

They charge for balance inquiry? Hope globe doesn't follow suit. I think smart is slowly pricing themselves out of the market.
|
|
i just read these messages in this thread, and i hope it aint late yet to express my part,
smart charges 1 peso for the balance inquiry if you dial 1515, but if you send a ?1515 via sms to 214, you'll not be charged..
c'mon, operators' war should not be the subscribers' war. i'm a smart user and sun as well, but being with smart doesn't mean i should fight for them, this cliche will always be true "love your own". love your globe, we'll love ours, but someday some of you will eat your own words, some will switch, some will stay, time will tell.. me? i'm not closing my doors for globe. i was once a globe user, but pissed me so i got to get smart, but smart may also do piss me, so where would i turn? sun maybe, or globe perhaps... |

@ex_crusader, yup! i agree with you. one of the things na hindi natin maiiwasan ay CHANGE. hindi natin masyadong napapansin pero not everything is permanent.
when my eyes were opened to the concept of COMPETITION, i realized that i had to experience all of them first before i could render a final judgment. mahirap (o mali) mag-defend ng isang particular network lalo na kung di mo pa naman na-experience lahat.
saying that, i still recognize the fact that each one is entitled to their own opinion, so kung meron mang gaya ko na ginamit na ang lahat ng network, i would still respect him/her kung iba ang maging judgment niya.
it might not be proper for me to say this in this thread. pero SMART is the BEST kung coverage ang pag-uusapan. of course i will agree kung sasabihin mo na opportunistic sila (especially in PRICING) pero that's the price one has to pay to enjoy superior services.
anyway, i dont want to argue pero kung talagang meron dito na hate na hate ang smart, no problem with me. respetuhan lang tayo ng opinyon.
of course, di rin naman ako plastic para sabihing pwedeng magbago ang opinyon ko. as i've said, the only thing permanent in this world is change. halimbawa, willing akong lumipat sa EXPRESS TELECOM kung maganda ang i-o-offer nilang CDMA2000(3G) service. that's it. i'm willing to give them a chance to prove themselves to me as a consumer.
isa lang ang gusto kong sabihin sa inyo. As CONSUMERS, we have the power to CHOOSE where we put our hard-earned money. sana kayo rin, alamin ninyo ang inyong mga karapatan at ang kalakip na responsibilidad. Always be responsible to inform yourself. more power comes when you keep yourself informed.
ciao. god bless sa inyong lahat.

ei, just to inform, {i'm freakin' stupid kase that i dont know how to create topic/forum..}
a news art. says that Express Telecom (EXTELCOM) is NOT operating using CDMA2000 (3G) or UMTS, they are completely abandoning their CDMA structures??? because the report says they will be operating under Global System for Mobile Communications, and thats obviously GSM!
news article is found here: at the bottom part of the page:
ei doctabako, i think, globe and smart are both ganid's: take some time to read this article form inquirer: click me
it's about the blockage of Extelcom to operate under GSM platform... are they kinda afraid of a little competition?

Extelcom will be operating on CDMA, many years ago, even before PILTEL offered CDMA. But due to many reasons, it was not realized, until now, maybe.
I knew people from Millicom, they were our client.
ex_crusader, mali yang dyaryo. Extelcom has no CMDA infrastructure to abandon, to begin with. they have NAMPS, of which the logical upgrade is CDMAOne or CDMA2000.
