You sure about GPRS as I phoned Orange customer services after reading the wap point earlier and they confirmed it was wap & internet. They even joked that only person they were aware of that had been thrown off due to fair use policy was someone who used over 100MB in one month. Phoned them twice since getting P800 on Friday just to make sure I won't get a massive bill for GPRS internet access.

Yep fraid so. I use the Access Pack. Taken from Access Pack T&Cs:

Orange Access pack can only be used to access Orange WAP sites while in the UK and will require the use of a WAP-enabled phone. Orange GPRS Access pack is subject to a fair usage policy of 10MB.

Normal GPRS can be used for internet access as well as WAP but not the GPRS Access Pack. WAP use only.

Aint you able to check whether you have been charged? Like on t-mobile you dial 150, go to account details and check how much you have been charged for this month (so far), also supplies you with how many free mins and texts you have left.
Did you lot just buy any tariff to get the phone, or have you chosen the tariff that suits you? [addsig]

This is worrying as customer services keep saying I can use my access pack for internet & wap. I could end up with a bloody big bill if I'm not careful (must be upto 4MB already)!

Nope. Have the Access Pack as I use it a lot. Travel directions, trafic hold-ups etc it is very handy. As far as I am aware you can check available mins but not GPRS useage. I use a Pana GD87 and check the data counter for data use.

Check out Orange site for yourself if your not convinced. GPRS is charged at £3 per meg on a pay as you use basis.

No, i mean can you check how much you have been charged? Like "1 pound and 52p so far on your next bill" Find this very helpful, so i know what to expect at the end of the month. Not free mins (thats just an extra thing), also doesnt the p800 show how much GPRS (MB) has been used?

Finally cleared up with orange (and gave them a major f**king).

Yes, the Orange access pack is just unlimited WAP (as stated by others) the GPRS internet they told me is charged at £8/MB

Basically, the Orange Shop salesman didn't know what he was talking about and neither did the 2 calls to customer services. When I eventually got through to the GPRS team they knew straight away.

Good news is I have got the phone at the £299 price instead of the £329 which I would have paid on lower tariff

They are refunding me any costs I have incurred to date on the GPRS internet and changing me back to the tariff I originally was going to get.

Thing that is stupid is that when using PAYG GPRS wap & internet access with my T68/iPAQ both appear to be charged at £3/MB?

Now need to figure out how to stop the P800 internet app. using the GPRS internet instead of the GPRS wap profile!

And yes, the P800 does have GPRS counters & the GPRS internet one was already over 3.5MB !!!

Glad you got this cleared up. Still don't know why they quoting you £8/meg for GPRS internet use. They quote £3/Meg for GPRS pay as you use on their website. Cheaper if you take out a GPRS 'bundle'. Using the P800 for internet use is the same as using your iPAq etc. The counter will probably also take into account all data useage so even using your WAP access pack will also show as GPRS data on the counter. Sorry can't help with the config of P800, still don't know whether to get one.

@Lambert

The P800 keeps separate data logs for GPRSinternet & GPRSwap so its easy for me to see what I use now.

Also I have been able to select and option to select the data accout (GPRSinternet or GPRSwap) before starting a connection.

Have managed to view esato via wap with the built in browser but not opera browser yet.

Orange bundles and costs below once you have gone over your included Mb the cost is £3.00/Mb

GPRS bundle 1 £2.00 1Mb £3.00
GPRS bundle 2 £4.00 2Mb £3.00

You don't have to subscribe to a bundle, you can chose to PAYG @ £3.00/Mb

i had the same confusion, i was told yesterday (when i got my lovely p800!!) that the unlimited gprs offer from the spv was transferrable, and i could use that. i rang orange cust services this mornin, and they said no thats incorrect, and id been signed up 4 2mb gprs without my knowledge!!! aparently the access pack is free wap, fair usage policy.

i wish theyd told me this in the shop!!
