Hell no! Sorry guys, pressed the joystick by mistake and posted the previous message instead. So here it goes again. Diggs, how did you manage to lose the file from your pc anyway?

Lost the file when I got a immenent HDD failure message.
My HDD died in a matter of hours (2 1/2 to be precise).
I had most of it backed up, but I hadnt gotten round to backing up some of the less important stuff like mobile phone ringtones.
I was kind thinking that it wouldnt be too hard to get the file back if I did lose it |

I wonder how many people here keep backups of their hard drives? I personally prefer a full drive backup rather than only backing up individual files because I am then covered for any extreme event.
Althought Norton ghost does a good job I recommend Acronis True Image which takes an full image of the drive.
When you get a HDD failure you simply buy a new HDD and it replaces the image over the drive and you are ready to go exactly as you were after a couple of hours depending on drive size.
If you only need to retrieve an individual file that is supported too!
I know this sounds a bit like a commercial but for £30 or so why would you not use a product like this?! Saved me quite a few times already!

@Diggs: Since you obviously had SMART activated, didn't you receive an earlier warning message? @masseur: I either use RAID mirroring or back up my files manually to another HDD. I really don't want to restore windows xp - would rather reinstall it. I also never got any HDD failure despite having subjected them to all kinds of experiments.

yeah raid is fine but not a suitable solution for a laptop that travels the world with me. with true image I can made backup cd's using the built in cd writer of the laptop so its a convenient solution. Also with true image, when restoring a full image you are not really restoring windows XP as such, you are restoring the full contents of the drive exactly how the drive looked when you took the image.

Digss, where did you get the original file?
Did you collect them yourself? If not, maybe it's somewhere else on the net?
Was it a collection of imy's or midi's?
[update]
Just because I feel bad for Diggs;
I've found some imy archive's on www.t610archive.com .
Here's a file with 100+ imy's.
I've even zipped them for Windows users, which is not my style..

2manydjs, thank you very much for the tones, I appreciate it
Yes I did put it together myself, but I was sure that someone had posted it somewhere on the net. ??????
As yet, no file returned.
When and if I do get it back, I dont think I will be in mood for sharing
