Yep im pretty suprised that SE put in that 900mah battery yet the P1 has a 1120mah battery, SE should have just put the P1 battery in to the W960 as well, it would make sense since W960 is a high-end Multimedia Smartphone and most people will use it for mainly Music, Videos, Movies, WiFi, Web Browsing etc. . . .
The W960 proto type and retail version ONLY have Wifi-b

hi guys,

i'm new here just having read ur postings about the new w960i by sony ericsson.

Honestly, I'm very inpatient to get that mobile device, cause i have been satisfied with SE's p1i, just its firmware did not run properly in my network, i also hated that nasty qwerty keyboard.

now, the w960i will announce in a few hours/days/weeks an i have to read here about battery covers, which aren't able to be opened, is that desaster really true? Could anyone of u tell me, if he or she had made any experiences similar to the ones of birdien's?

waiting hopeful for honest answers!

8gb, wifi, 3.2mp cam, touchscreen, walkman, size, to name a few things.

Arent u Joking? lol

2005-2006
N91,N91 8gb -Bluetooth with a2dp,3g,wifi b/g,3.5mm jack,Gprs,edge.

I doubt w960i being released end of 2007 almost 2008 for some places, couldnt even compete to phones announced in 05-06,
It is missing 3.5mm jack,wifi g,edge.

Yeah its missing a lot + the less battery life + ugly stylus+ cheap covering and they put it out 6 months after p1i with identical specs beside the 8gb? (which they could've easily done in 2006 even)

Thats a joke really...and for that price even more...
I like my p1i and I think that's the best thing they came up and will in a long while...Its not perfect but is definitely better than 960

just to note, W960i does have WiFi, + it has 3.5mm but not built-in as it comes with adapter from FastPort to 3.5mm with Walkman controls
I know biult-in 3.5mm jack is better but this is not a must have feature for every one, I mean if it is a must have then no one will buy SE phones as non has 3.5mm jack built-in

but personally, I hope have 3.5mm in the future ( I already heard they will in 2008 - 2009 timeframe )

Yep the specs realy don't make sense for a High-end Multimedia Phone, my N80 and a N93 which is from 2006 has very similar specs, with EDGE and WiFi-b/g included, 3.2mp camera, more softwares etc. . .
But i guess not everyone needs a powerhouse like N95. But SE could have atleast added EDGE, and that Bluetooth headset.

Apparently the W960i's battery is too small:

SE claims 9 hours talktime, 370 hours standby time for W960i.
For P1i, they claim 10 hours talktime and 440 standby.

Talktime difference: 1 hour (1 hour off the P1i's 10 hours. Does anybody talk that long between charges?)
Standby difference: 70 hours (about three days off the P1i's 18, so still 15 days!)

Obviously theres a difference, but honestly, the times are so long that the difference between them will, for most people go unnoticed.

(BTW: I'm not saying the phones are actually going to achieve these times... Its just what SE claims on their website).

Of course you're not saying that - otherwise ppl would've laughed at you

And yes your assumptions are wrong and the difference would be somewhere in the range of 1/2 a day to a full day
And that is pretty much, when you take into account that p1i lasts 2days tops on heavy use and 3-4 on a less heavy use

So that will make it 1 to 3 days tops for the w960i which is a joke...

SE has touchscreeen about 3 or 4 years i think, nokia still doesn't have it.
Walkam plaer is one of the best if it is not the best player of all!
look at the size of screen and size of both phones!
SE much better.

n91 does only have a shitty screen and a 2 MP cam without AF! its strange how you forget all the bad things about nokia phones indeed!

@RoKeC

Of course you are right but one is 2-3 years old and one just released and still uses the same processor from when the P990 was announced, still no DSP or HSDPA either never mind the limited bands.

Try comparing it to a N series device realeased about the same time and the only unique selling feature is a Touchscreen that's it, everything else the N95 8Gb absolutely slaughters the W960 spec wise and i do mean everything. Oh sorry for some the Walkman 3 interface but really you select an Album or make a playlist who after that looks at their device whilst listening to it and why would anyone want to?

I think even Album Art is little more than a gimmick and is hardly a make or break feature IMO. but hey if you want an SE Walkman device and a Touchscreen and are happy to pay so much for so much old repackaged spec's that your choice. But please trying to claim it has superior spec's is just a joke and not supported by a single fact. To whoever said well it has a Fast port to 3.5mm jack well nearly all phones do so i really can't see how you can compare that to a built in jack either.

@k850 successor

Wow a 2-3 year old device is beaten by a Flagship product so long later try comparing a N95 8GB to it then and see what happens comparing two devices realeased in the same quarter and what happens then.

Marc
