Just because Carl Zeiss may have manufactured the lenses for Nokia doesn't mean they used the same exacting standards for camera phone lenses as they use for their "real" cameras.
K750 was the first SE phone to use a CMOS camera module manufactured by Sony, so in some ways you could call the K750 a "cybershot". It's certainly got more street cred than the lens module used by Nokia N70.
What's in a name anyway? Personally I think K800 has more cybershot in it than Nokia camera phones have Carl Zeiss in them.

@max, agree with you on that totally. Besides, a good lens may be important, but that's only if you've got a decent sensor inside in the first place. So if you ask me, I think the Carl Zeiss branding on the Nokia phones is more gimmicky than the Cybershot branding on SE phones.

So as more complexity & technology or even advancement if you will occurs in the cybershot phones, then just how long will the A2 platform cope?
I want UI3.1 Dammnit!
I want more complex applications than what Java is providing.
I want WiFi in my K850 type design Cybershot device.
I want VPN connection.
Although full qwerty is great, not always do I want that size. EVEN though the P1i is very svelte now, its touchscreen still bothers me. I don't WANT nor NEED touchscreen in my smartphone. I like the brighter screens & contrast that non-touchscreen devices offer me. Many times out in the sun or late at night I'm playing on the phone, working on the phone.
I'd like to run BBConnect 4 WITHOUT the need to a touchscreen.
I'm SURE I'm not alone, and NOT in the minority either!
There is a HUGE market the Nokia is enjoying in the smartphone space & recently INCREASED! (an arguement well challenged by knowledgeable ppl such as Max_Wedge - but predicted will grow 2yrs from now; prediction was made 2 yrs ago) EVEN Motorola is leveraging their acquired expertise from Sendo ( a company that was working with NOT UIQ3 but with S60) and making a push into this Symbian Smartphone space, challenging S60!
I'm beginning to believe 1 of two things with SE & UIQ3.
1) There is an unspoken, undocumented agreement between SE & Nokia that SE will NOT go head-2-head with S60 with their UIQ3 in a non-touchscreen implementation. Just think Nokia owns a HUGE controlling stake in Symbian. I don't believe that body's decisions are truely independent. I also believe that SE has PLENTY of resources to grow UIQ3. Lastly that Samsung although makes S60 devices their design & feature set is crappy until the recently spied SGH-i570 (hardware wise SAME as the MS Mobile 6 Standard i620 unit just announced).
2. Recent acquisition of UIQ3 stated it would be a conflict of interest to source out licenses and still make products based on it for a certain amount of time. Just think ... any other UIQ3 (Touchscreen) devices Announced, Rumored or even SPIED SINCE SE's acquired UIQ?!! NADDA NOPE ZILTCH. And as for UIQ3.1 only 1, yes count it ONE device launched, spied, rumored (only from Motorola from them directly) using it .... Motorola Z8!!
So - does anyone want MORE features/functionality beyond just taking pictures in the evolution of the top end Cybershot phone? Are you with me? POST MORE - realistic & feasible - things you wish to see & would GREATLY use in the evolution of the K850 device.
Thanks. |

K850 is a cameraphone, not a smartphone. P1i does also hae a good cam and it is certainly a smartphone. Just because you dont like touchscreens, doesnt mean that others think that. Then buy a nokia smartphone instead of complaining |

yes I'm a great advocate of touchscreens, but by no means do I think they should all be. There is a place for an SE hardscreen UIQ3 device.
For me personally java fulfills most of my requirements of an application platform - with K800 and java multi-tasking I personally don't feel the need of a smartphone. But it depends what app s you want. Java is getting better very quickly, but a stand alone smart os still has better integration with the shell than the java platform (for example, why can't we create shortcuts to java apps in the SE shortcut menu?)
The reason I prefer a touchscreen is for navigation and text input - I much prefer to write with character recognition than T9. Even though it's efficient, I still find T9 more limiting than hand writing.
For the moment though, no touchscreen has a quality camera so I've stuck with SE's flagship camera handsets (such as K750/K800)
So while prom1 and others are waiting with baited breath for the hardscreen smartphone from SE, I am waiting forthe opposite - the touchscreen cybershot

i think touchscreens are the way forward as an input method. i use a lot of them in my work and they make life much easier. |

i do hope SE could put some place for touchscreen phones in their portfolio. TS makes difference in user interface experience and more reliable functionality than hardscreens. add to them the standards of SE where they integrate Jogdial and Hardkeys which makes then the king of Phones with large scale of input options in one and imho, the only input that can relatively beat TS,Jogdial and Hardkeys combined when it comes to overall functionality is the mouse and keyboard of a PC!

OMG, you mean that Nokia phones don't actually have CZ lenses?
Wait till I tell my friend who has a Nokia N73! Hahaha..
To behonest, I dont know where k850suc, got that from.
Either he is right, which I doubt very much. Or he is making up utter nonsence and just saying that to defend SE's dignity
im not just making something up, im not saying anything rubbish
i think that Shaliron mentioned it once.
And i think k850 is the best 5 megapixels camphone cause ELdar say so in the review. But i dont know about the samsung 5 megapixels, i know one thing: that k850 is better than n95 |
