Maybe just by simply replacing the KEYPADS the problem will be solved . . .

Yes... One more person having the same problem!
I bought the phone about 8 days ago, have been extremely carefull with it, always softly applying my thumb on the keys (I'm girl by the way)...
But yesterday I noticed a vertical scratch in the middle of key nr 3, expanding and evolving into a crack. Today key nr 6 shows the same symptoms...
Reading through this topic it seams quite obvious the blame is not the users' but Sony Ericssons!
Really a pitty, loved the design...
I'll try and exchange it tonight. |

@lain: welcome here!
could you post a pic of the broken keys?
though you could get your phone replaced as it is 8 days old

I'm surprised that SE even missed this fairly obvious quality fault. I'm not impressed with their quality control.
This many incidents don't occur with 'isolated' cases.

Hey, thanks for your prompt replies...
I'm currently backing-up the files on my S500i, getting it ready to bring back to the shop.
I'm still in doubt though... I like the design so much, and especially the 'everchanging theme' (only available on this model). Would I risk exchanging it for a new one, hoping the keys will be stronger, or is this utterly stupid... ?
Which other !reliable! models could you guys suggest to me?
Thanks

surely the issue will be fixed and then you cna get yours replaced by one of the improved keypad's if the issue arrives with yours?
if you like the phone then i would go for it....looks real nice

i really like this phone but dunno if SE will ever come out w/ a better keypad for the phone.
even if they come up w/ a new keypad, do u think they'll replace it for the users with this problem? or would they just implement the new keypad on newer s500 for buyers. |

Well I've decided to get this phone and SE has recognized this problem and will replace it for you so long as there has been no physical damage done to it; i.e. u didn't drop it so it diesn't have any dings or scratches.
I haven't had that cracked key problem yet but I did buy it from a store that ensured that they themselves will exchange the phone for me (in-store warrenty) rather then sending it to SE. |
