Thanks for the suggestion, I already taste the juicy N91 sound, man is unbelievable, try it out whenever you have the chance!
I think the keypoints of the N91 are:
1. Standard 3.5mm audio jack
2. Standard mini usb jack
3. wi-fi connection
4. A2DP stereo bluetooth
5. and ofcourse standard supersound and volume with editable equalizer!!

Hello everyone,
After purchasing the W950i and hbh-ds970 and selling my trusted qtek s100 and ipod nano I thought that I was just a step away from the "unplugged Nirvana". No more lost calls and no more cables to fight or change with..Unfortunately even if we are living in 2007 we are still chasing the rainbow..

The W950i's low volume output made me search the Internet to find some uncapping patch for the phone as I did with my ipod. (I found gopod in a matter of minutes so I thought that the patch for the W950 would be found easily). Nothing was available out there and all the hints led me to esato. I think is the best source for SE phones info anyway..

Everybody was convinced that by changing the CDA of the phone into a not european one would remove the EU limiter but things were not exactly like that..

Phantom Ewb was the first one to report a no volume difference for the newer generic firmware then next day I got my phone back reflashed as well..
No, the generic firmware doesn't uncap the w950i..
The music is coming out out a little more satisfying now and a little more hefty..you could say that is volumed up at about 2 clicks but unfortunately you couldn't call this "uncapping".. - It takes some days to find out that the volume is a little better. For example going at the gym you find out that the volume now is more satisfying than before and you hear no more people shouting doing their workout.. -

So what do you do then?

One sollution is to sell it and buy something else..I really thought of that but what to buy as an allrounder? Only Tytn came to my mind but it has problems with A2DP .. Ppc phones offer high volumes with excellent available software but is on the complex-heavy side of devices.. I'd like just an ipod with a phone ..
So waiting for the iphone I think I got some excellent sollutions to give:

1. Download MP3GAIN http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
Set the gain for every song up to 97 or 99 db no more than that..
You'll notice a real volume gain along with a healthy bass boost.
MP3Gain doesn't render the song's gain and you can undo the changes anytime you want. (I apply mp3gain directly to the w950i storage so I don't have to mess at all with my music library).

2. Get a new pair of earphones that is LOUD!!
By the way I'm selling my HBHds970 for just 50 pounds (almost unused in their box, PM me), cause simply they are not loud.. They are not so pathetic as the bundled earphones but their volume is on the medium side compared with loud headphones. Though their quality is perfect and would be perfect on a loud system they are losing points here..
So if you want loud earphones get Shure e4c and e5c and from the cheaper side the Creative EP-480 which are unbelievable loud. The volume gets twice as high compared with the SE HBHDS970.

3. Buy an A2DP BT stereo adapter that lets you plug your own earphones.
Get the Motorola S705 Bluetooth Soundpilot http://www.motorola.com/motoi[....]details.jsp?globalObjectId=152 or the HTC S100 Bluetooth Stereo Headset http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=140289 , plug those loud EP-480 and everything is loud as it should..

Generally look for earphones having 64 or 32ohms impedance, cause I think that makes them loud..16ohms or less are probably for loud systems and not for our asthenic W950i..

And don't forget:

1. Wait for SEUnlock to come out with the volume patch..
2. Email continuosly SE about the volume crap so as to know that they cannot make music devices that don't play music..(is as if a serious weapons manufacturer would produce guns that don't kill..Ok we now loud music deafens but is up to the customer to decide..)
3. Wait for the iphone.. (as if we didn't wait for the W950i..lol..who knows if the iphone will be ok?)

Sorry if being long, share your volume stories or describe clever tricks for volume gain or reveal a headset that is really LOUD!!
Thank you...

I dont know idf this is connected but I have just bought a HBH DS970 and the volume on m y W950 went low I now find I have to keep resetting the multimedia volume, I think if you lower the volume when using the HBH DS970 it makes the phone volume go down when it is no longer connected I reset the voulme on the phone and hey presto its back to normal. I personaly find the max volume of the HBH set too loud and my ears are shot from too many years around race cars!!!!!!!!!!
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

On my P990i, I had both the DS970 volume and multimedia volume full up and it was nowhere near loud enough.

Problem seems to be that the pone controls the headset volume and vice versa. If they were seperate it would have probably been better.

I think this cannot be done because the phone streams the raw sound to the bluetooth device, which then amplifies it.

Even though the W950 gives the lower volume comparing multiple A2DP phones using the same bluetooth headset.. Those SE guys have realy drown the sound of the phone pretty well eeh? Can you imagine if it wasn't a dedicated music phone how would it sound??.. SE is really cheating on everyone of us and we are still keep buying.. What a shame really

I'm now using cda R6D19 on my W950i. It seems that the volume on my HBH-DS970 has increased but the supplied headphone's volume had gone down a bit

I'd like to correct a mistake I posted before!!
No the impedance is not responsible for loud volume, just the db mark..
I mean, for some time I was buying headphones with bigger impedance everytime time resulting in louder and louder headphones..
Just yesterday I purchased the senheisers CX-300 with just 16 ohms impedance but with 112 db output.. Man I'm a bass junkie and those earphones rule.. Best fit for my ears way too loud and the bass feeling is just amazing.. Thanx Senheiser.
Check them out!! http://www.sennheiserusa.com/[....]roductspecs.asp?transid=500830

Can you be more specific SEUnlock?
Define much louder volume using a comparison please..(most preferably the ipod or N91)..
Also, you cannot review or just a describe a 100 pounds accessorie saying just very good..
Please be our eyes and shed some light on that exausted but not tamed yet dark monster: volume on SE walkman phones

I am not in town at the moment to give you any real stats on the sound difference but my P1 is actually probably capable of playing music too loud for the speaker to render properly, I would say that in terms of "clicks" that you can adjust the volume by it is at least 2 louder than the W950i.

The W960i is very much the same,.

As for the DS980, I have only had it about a week, and haven't had much chance to play with it but the syncing and sound quality are also better, never mind the cosmetics, the sound quality, clarity and volume seem to be enhanced. It is also much better for streaming movie audio through, as it doesn't skip every 5 secs lol.

Hope this is more info for you if you have any other questions feel free to email me.

In a previous thread there was an issue on SE ds970 stereo BT earphones, about left and right channels being reversed..
