Great piece of software. The picture quality on my P990 is excellent ! When converting a DVD the sound volume is very low though. I use the standard settings. Anyy suggestions ? sorry if this has been raised already. thanks a lot. |

Hi all,
Thanks again officemaven for the donation.
jmash:
i'll have to look into what kind of codecs and bitrates the P800/P910 support. If you already know this information, you can create a P800 or P910 profile for M3 yourself, using the profiles editor on the Advanced tab.
ares:
I'll add .divx support in the next version, but so far as i know, .divx files are actually RIFF containers anyway. What does this means? You can simply rename your .divx files to .avi and they should work fine in the current version of M3, until i post the next update with .divx support.
micheluk:
The low sound for DVDs is related to dynamic volume range. When you play a DVD on the TV, your DVD player performs dynamic range compression (DRC), and this makes the loud moments quieter, and the quiet moments louder - causing the average volume to be higher than before. I'm going to add some basic DRC to M3 soon to improve the volume levels for DVD conversions.

You have to laugh at SE when you see the difference in video quality between one converted using M3 and the demo one supplied. It just goes to show to me that there are more tallented people out there with a passion for these phones than work at SE. |

@Guy H
Exactly! SE should for example employ people like mysh and give them high salary and bonuses. In return we consumers would get fantastic service. |

SE do care about media on their phones, and ways to improve it. They asked me to write some tutorials for their developer site, they're actually quite interested in working with people who have experience/knowledge in areas they lack. The new wiki system shows this also.
In fact if you demux the demo movies on your phone, you'll see the m4v stream is now compressed with XviD. This seems to be true of most phones produced this year. Previously demo movies were encoded with a generic mp4 implementation in some encoding software i forget the name of... "Nextreaming Corporation mpeg4 codec".
I'd presume the encoding settings on the demo movies are so low due to compatibility reasons. The demo movie is incorporated into the factory flash of the firmware, so they need to ensure it will work well, even if there are performance issues with playback within the firmware itself. You don't want a demo movie on a phone that won't play properly until the firmware is updated!

It looks like you need the latest .net 2.0 installed, the link is on the first post in this thread.

nice post mysh and good info. thanks.
edit to ask: I've converted a few files now and the quality is superb! the file size is rather large with the default settings so I was thinking would it be an idea to start a new thread for the UIQ3 phones where people can post their settings and give feedback on conversions? It would leave this thread free for discussions on the software itself.

Hi mysh,
When I try to convert a DVD movie, m3 crashes with the Microsoft error prompting me to send the error report to MS or not.
lastrun.log does not contain anything (except the from, to folder information).
I am able to convert other type of files (avi, dat) successfully.
I do have the .net 2.0 framework installed.
Can you please help?
Thanks,

Wow, great piece of software! Is anyone here who has successfully created a profile for the P910i, which does NOT produce laggy videos? Would be greatly appreciated |

That should be relatively possible to do.
I say relatively...
M3 basically makes every clip the same format (codecs and resolution) as you've selected by profile or in the advanced options, however...
you'd need every clip to be output in the same resolution, eg. 320x240 or 176x144. So really it'll depend on the widescreen option you set in M3.
If you set "maintain existing aspect" you probably couldn't make seperate 320x128 and 320x180 clips into a single mp4 file, they'd need to have identical properties.
I have to add the qualifier that i haven't tested joining clips yet, so that is just my educated guess at this point. I'll take a look over the weekend for you to verify, but i strongly suspect that is the case. Then i'll try to get it into 0.89.7 for you. |
