Like Jah i feel the same about my p990i although im not too impressed with the audio quality of the p990i, well to be exact its the overall volume of the media player that im not impressed with. But its not a big deal for me as i use my k800i as my media player along with my hbh ds970 bt headset and it works brilliantly well.
The RAM issue isnt much of a concern to me to be honest and i really cant understand why some people are making such a big fuss over it really. I mean who in their right/sane mind would run 10 or more apps???, frankly its laughable. I myself have no problems running the web browser, typing out an sms or email and then opening up the rss feed to check my rss feeds and ive yet to suffer a crash or hang. So personally i dont really see the RAM issue being such a problem as some here make it out to be. I think with the new firmware recently, multi tasking has become alot better in my opinion. Funny how people moan about the p990i but yet arent willing to get rid of it .
The p990i does have bugs, no doubt about it but so far ive had it for over a week and i have to say everytime i pick it up im constantly amazed by its capabilities...its an amazing unit for what it is. 3G web browsing is super fast as Jah earlier said...the only problem i seem to be having is trying to access secure pages, keeps coming up with an error saying network error...i dont know if its the built in browser or its my network thats causing the problem there. Will have to check on k800i to see if i get a network error.
Other than that i love it despite its little bugs and niggles...would i recommend this phone??..without a doubt yes. In fact ive recommended it to my boss whos quite impressed with the phone and is looking to get a few for the company.....just hoping that the blackberry connect will eb working soon as hes most interested in that.
Thats my views on the phone, until something better comes out i dont think ill be getting rid of this phone for a long time.

If I gave the phone to my users I am certain that within a day or so I would have a pile of so called "faulty" units on my desk. Most "non SE enthusiast users" will expect the phone to manage the memory for them,it simply would not enter their heads that they have to manage the processes themselves and nor should they given the cost of the phone. In the business I am in people like to have the latest high tech gadget to show off at the track and theyu all want it (me included) , but at the moment I am a long way from recomending this phone for purchase, so far I have been acused of knocking and exagerating the phones bugs! looks to me like I was sport on!

If you were talking about a phone like k750 or k800, i would agree...but the P990 requires some more expertise from the user...with more bugs or less bugs

I agree that the P990i needs a bit of commitment to learn from the user ( I am a phone fan in my spare time so I am prepared to fiddle about with them!) but this is after all aimed at the business user who will by default perhaps have less time and possibly inclination to play around with the thing just to get it to do what it says on the box.
The phone should be able to deal with memory issues from the factory. Yes I am having a bit of a pop at as they should have sorted these issues by now and I wonder if they will be releasing an updated version for the retail market place, if not I realy feel their reputation will suffer, people who just walk in to shops and buy the phone they have heard so much about might just walk away from the brand if they are faced with just some of the issues us "enthusiasts" might be prepared to overlook, I am peaking from a business perspective not as an enthusiast as I hope that the business community will be a big adopter of this phone if they are and it is a success then we can look forward to furtehr cutting edge devices from if it is not a success who knows?

YEah, right...they must be all sorry for paying between 550 and 650 euros for such a fabulous phone
they could be here all satisfied, bitching about a phone they wish to have, and calling "betatesters" to the people that have it
brb, gonna enjoy my P990:)

Hi Ares,
we all hope that you enjoy your P990 and that it is as trouble free as you hope it to be but history here makes me some what doubt that is going to happen any time soon. I also don't get why you are so hostile to anyone that expresses anything other than SE make the best phones and that they are not free from problems as this is just not the reality for many. I personally think it is peoples money and they can spend it how they wish i am only mad at the manufacturers and they just won't get my money, and no I'm not a wannabe owner i have just bought an N93. So if i wanted would of got a P900 or M600.

I never said my P990 is problem-free...but the problems it still have certainly wonīt make me to say anyone NOT to buy the phone. Becayse i actualy use the phone in leisure and at work, EVERIDAY, without too much problems, nothing that i canīt handle...so i DO recomend it to everyone...
I canīt stop to admire the way it uses WLAN, the fastness of the browser, the usefullness of the RSS app, Office suite and PDF+, the marvelous sound when used with HBH DS970, the way it works almost like a normal k750 or k800 with the flip on, the way it runs almost every J2ME i put in it, the way i can custumize shortcuts on the Activity menu, with FC or with it, etc.
And you see, the majority of people that came here saying the phone is still in "beta" phase, actually donīt have it. The ones that have it and bitch about it, do it in such an agressive way that i find strange - because in reallity i donīt see the situation so bad, and so do other P990 users (Jah, Spawn, etc). Plus, they donīt do the logical thing if they donīt like the product - give it back to the store, or sell it

it's useless Dogmann don't waste your breath, to some people here the p990 is the messiah come to save us from the darkness and if we don't think it's the best phone on earth then we must be burned to a crisp for being heretics
I still don't understand this aggressive diehard fanboy defense, some people would accuse you of lying for reporting the p990 has bugs and say 'you're ditching it because you don't have it' yet they themselves post that they have those bugs later on, I got it, got rid of it and bought a cheaper phone with more features and feel much better now, wake up and smell the technology people

i will ask you now, while using your phone do you think it is a beta?? For me it's not because i think it is the best phone but not fully develop because of too much potentials. It takes more time to fixed the bugs but i really hope SE will fixed it. I tried it already and it is so perfect for me. But the stocks are coming next week. |

actually since the p990i is announced,i read all the information about it. As a p series user,it is so hard for me to try another phone because of the way i used my phone. In a p series like this phone, all the things i need are included. You don't need an iPod because you can used up to 8GB memory stick duo pro,a MP4 player because it can play movies or convert movies to the format of the p990i and a good camera for pictures and videos. SO what else are you looking for?? A WIFI,3G phone. I hope on september the phone i will buy is different from what other users experiencing now. |

hey ares, I'm with you.
I think you are right in saying that you would recommend it even if there are still bugs in it. Wether one can live with the bugs or without is personal and is different for every person.
I had the M600i when it first came out and everyone was saying how horrible it was and in my opinion it wasn't. That's not to say that one might not find it horrible. With the new firmware upgrade, it has been very good. I also bought the Tytn when it first came out. There's no firmware (ROM for WM5) upgrade for that yet, but it still buggy. It will shut down periodically by itself and the A2DP connection and sound is not as good as the M600. Everything slows to a craw when I use my BT headset to listen to music.
The only phone I've bought recently that was pretty much bugless was a non-smartphone.... the K800i.
Anyways, my opinion is that no matter how great or long developed a product is, I've never owned a phone that was bug free. |
