Yeah, it all boils down to what your preferences are and how much you're willing to give and take. Some people prefer quantity, some prefer quality and some are limited by cost. I just hope people can get some info out of our discussion and make up their own mind. 
I know my preference is quality over quantity any day.

Jeev, I've not yet tried 256Kbps with any serious listening but I plan to do some testing soon. I'll post my results here if I get around to doing the test 
I'm keen to up my average bitrate from 112-128Kbps (most of my tracks fall in this range at the moment) to 160 or even higher VBR bitrates for my favourites - so I'll have to test for the phones ability to play those higer bitrates at some point.
Dogman, it's indeed cool how we have all come to agreement on this topic, many heads make light work as they say
