jplacson,
Dude, calm down. It's a good upgrade to the outdated P910.
Take a look at this pic. It looks pretty nice!

Also, the camera button will not call the camera accidentally. You'll have to rotate the cover on the back for it to work.

Also do not compare the p990 to the w800.
|
|
We are not comparing the phones -just SE's allocation of MS Duos to each handset

London, October 10, 2005 – Sony Ericsson emphasised its continued commitment to Symbian OS today with the announcement of its next generation smartphone to the global development community. The P990 will be the first commercially available smartphone to adopt the enhanced Symbian OS version 9.1 and UIQ 3 software platform. This flagship UMTS smartphone is Wi-Fi enabled, has a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and features a new hardware keyboard beneath the flip-down keypad. The phone will start shipping during Q1 of 2006.

Someone please tell me where MARCH 2006 release has been quoted???
To me it says starts shipping during Q1 of 2006.... there is quite a time scope there....
Also....there appears to be a link just above....with a schematic of the P990 without the flip on it....??

Some inside people I've talked to said was scheduled to be fully available to market on WEEK 6 (February), not Mach.
....
The flip is (obviously) removable. See the photos!!

I've seen it. The features are good... as always. The design however... well, since Sony got into the picture... man the designs have just gotten fuglier and fuglier. I have no doubts about the features of this phone...which is why I'm so frustrated and disappointed since even if the features make me wanna buy the phone... the execution of the features and implementation of them in the design is absolutely horrible.
The useless internet button is still there... I hope they at least allow it to be remapped without the need for a 3rd party app... or allow browsing with the flip closed... otherwise, it's still a useless button that just looks ugly.
The thumb board alone is enough to keep me away from this device. It's ugly, poorly incorporated, and will have repair issues since now, to change the keypad, the whole phone must be opened in order to service the keyboard.
The ONLY thing that would make me forgive them for moving the thumb board to it's current idiotic location, is if they added a trackpad at the back of the numeric keypad... as something that would allow cursor control within UIQ3, and double as the pen input pad since they shrank the physical size of the screen.
I'm not gonna buy a Nokia instead. I may complain about SE, but that's only because I hold their products to a higher standard than the other brands. I just think SE's current set of industrial designers are either retarded... or heavily on crack. I have no complaints regarding the features they included (or even those they chose to exclude) in the new P990.

Without the flip (for those who haven't seen it)
I'm really afraid that there won't be a view for upcoming appointments on the standbyscreen!! And I really need that. Let's hope it is possible. |

I'm horrified - I was truly hoping that the earlier pictures with the built in keyboard were fake. That keyboard completely ruins the look - it compares in no way to a p9xx with the flip removed
They upped the resolution but shrunk the screen size to fit that monstrosity on there too - someone needs sacked for that.
64meg MSPD is as useful as a chocolate teapot. Sack whoever thought that was a 'Selling Point'
3 way jog? Sacked for that too.
By the time this thing comes on the general market it will be outdated anyway... |
