@amby: the INEC Sabotage conspiracy theory has been floating around for a few weeks now. it seems it has been a back up plan for sometime. INEC hasnt gotten its 2nd qtr funding yet and we are going into the 3rd qtr. if its true they will revamp INEC at the last minute (in December) and the new people will complain that april is not enough time to hold an election, what can we do? its not like 3rd term that we could complain (threaten) our senators and reps. its totally out of our hands short of mass demonstrations! then afterwards the election that is held late, it flops like the census with international observers giving tit a thumbs down and the rsults are nullified. what happens next? does OBJ step down to an interim govt? dont think so. |

@all: by the way, Happy Democracy Day!!! NEPA (abi PHCN) has given us light this morning uncharacteristically since last night!!!! what does this prove? they can increase power supply at will? or is some other state being deprived of electricity? any how, lets start the 365 day count down!!!

@Abu: Your theory on the INEC scenario is scary. But God isn't asleep.
Whats the 365days countdown for? 365days of light or blackouts? I have long concluded that PHCN is delibrately holding back on power, cos we've had rains for a while now, so our dams should be bursting with water, yet the situation hasn't improved. |

@abu, the INEC theory would not sail through because for the first time in our history we ave concluded that we r not accepting tenure enlongation any it would b fought through and through. u would b surprised how we would not accept it in any form it comes |

Abalaka was not sincere in his approach to the issue. Drug design & production has a scientific approach. properties of drugs have to be tested in animals before clinical trials in humans. And these trials are in phases. It must be proven to be safe before efficacy comes in. Even when it gets into the market there is postmarket surveillance. You can't say you have a drug without scientific backing |

unless you are a native doctor. Not that native doctors don't have their merits anyway. I want to point out that he was advised by Hon. Oviagele, a prominent pharmacist, legal practitioner and politician to go the way of native doctors. Come to think of it this way. Why not give it to the world for free if you have a drug that can cure/treat HIV/AIDS. you would be doing the WORLD some good. |

@ambyz: 365 days till a new prez!!!! its 9pm and we still have power. its a bit scary. feel like once it goes we wont get light till 2010.
@area: your really an optimist. lets see what happens now. remember, 3rd term was a bid at getting term extension legally. now the chips are down and the gloves have come off, things are now gonna get dirty. its hard for the masses to retaliate even in a quasi-legal manner.
@pxth: if i had the cure i wouldnt dash it out!!! (dont look at me like that!!!!) i'd make sure its cheap but if its goin to be free, someone is gonna pay me, be it a charity or NGO against AIDS. $100,000,000 is about enough. that'll be about $1 for every victim. (i think i will open up that lab in my backyard!!!!) |

@ABU… Let me start by thanking you for the settings you gave earlier. I am using my pc now though it is expensive. I had to configure my system to browse without pictures.
Coming to the Abalaka issue, I am disturbed to know that you would not give out the patent for free if you have the cure for hiv/aids. Let me point out that a wise man would get more money by free gesture than selling. You will become a billionaire overnight. Gifts and donations of all sorts will come your way. How many politicians, sportsmen, musicians, actors etc are living with the virus? Man this dude is going to wipe our generation if we don’t do something now.
@ALL…is vmobile gprs nationwide? I need settings immediately before mtn go finish my money.

Next time it is that fast... try opening Yahoo mail too. When U said ur max was 4kb... I knew that ur Upload/Download speeds (at the bottom of the NetMeter graph) must have been 0.0.kb/s. At that "speed" nothing will work.
@All... Abalaka's problem was with the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Research Institute. They wanted to verify his claims... meaning having a peek at his trade secrets. Abalaka got the press coverages but the real Guy who made all the money was/is a Guy call Dr. Abdullahi of Winners Diagnostic Centre. His HIV drug costs 30k about three years ago.... and the place is always packed (with the big men coming at nights). I have more gist on the Guy...but.
By the way, I lost my junior Brother to AIDS in June 2005... so HIV/AIDS is always an interesting subject to me. |

@Coola: let me start with belated condolences to you. With all hopes this HIV wont harass our grand children.
When I was saying max dl speed I was giving the average figure on he bottom of the screen. The max at the side actually read 5.3 during large downloads.
And Abalaka made dough selling to big soldiers back in the day!!!!!!
@pxth: Im a hungry Nigerian!!!! I cannot wait for accolades and awards from the rich and prominent! Are you saying if everyone HIV+ had to pay $1 (or lets say $2 for price of manufacturing the drug) its is too much? It’s virtually free!!!!! How much do you pay for the more recent antimalaria treatment? N900 to N1400. And you say $1 profit is too much? If I produce it and sell it at cost of production I’ll be acclaimed as a heaven sent saint. If I sell it and make $1 off each cured person I’ll be acclaimed as a heaven sent saint that is now rich!!!!! Let the rich politicians, biz men, sports men etc donate so that the drug can become absolutely free to those not as well off. Its if I made lets say $1000 from every off every victim that you could say im greedy or that the drug is only catering to the rich. Let me get back to my make shift lab.
Vmobile’s gprs isn’t working in Maiduguri, and as we haven’t heard from our correspondent in Kaduna for some time I don’t think KD is up either.

With a speed of 5.3, Yahoo Mail should open.

Vmobile GPRS is very patchy. In Abuja, it works in Asokoro but not everywhere like Glo and MTN. It is annoying to get signals when I walk outside my house but not inside my house. Meanwhile, they will say they have GPRS in Abuja.
I thot GPRS was implemented from the BSC (Base Station Controllers) so that all the BTS's will just go live at the same time... but... our Nija networks are probably upgrading a subset of the BTS from 2G to 2.5G
@All I will be online at Yahoo Messenger all day today... my buds, take note. |

Hi ALL, am just pissed off about this Vmb Gprs, not picking up at my location in Festac Town for the past two weeks, have been calling cc, they all know my name now, out of frustration i connected with MTN, just to check my yahoo mails, even with pictures disabled, N400 was swallowed after four pages. Do me a favour you all, call vmb (CC is free, and i believe everyone has a vmb line) pls ask them to switch back Festac Town. Thanks in advance. |

@pxth: Forgive my tardiness in repling. What do I think about Aids? Where does one start? I just hope I don't catch it.
As to the adequacy or otherwise of government policy, I cannot give an informed opinion as I have not followed government or civil society's response.

@coola: i called someone at Abuja Mtel and he says they are getting 56+kb/s there, except on times of heavy voice traffic when it drops a bit. he also told me the speed shouldn't be a factor in the problem but alas i've done everythng I can think of. I'm even having problems getting opera to browse. I thot maybe if i use a different browser i'd get thru with yahoo. its a bit frustrating. yahoo and its messenger are the main reasons i go to the net.
@angel: no vex!!! at least u had it at a point!!! hop they wont be able to tell im calling from maiduguri!!!!
@egunj: your silence, i thot u don vex!!!! PHCN has increased our light from 4 hrs a day to about 15hrs. has everyones power supply increased or did they just finally have pity on us in m'guri? coola u dont need to respond since you're in the land of 24 hrs power. |
