I think this is the real crux of it for me, the reason why when I see people around here trying to rave over the lacklustre crop of recent SE phones I despair. SE used to be capable of so much more - the P800 may not have had the same mainstream support, but in many other ways it was the iPhone of its day, absolutely class leading in every respect and basically the ONLY phone of its type. SE could do that then - they invented things, and weren't afraid to innovate and do something the best it could be done.

Compare that to the sorry state we're in now, just waiting perpetually for SE to release their next attempt to catch up with the rest of the market - if you don't want their mediocre same-as Symbian phone then here's their outdated Winmo handset, or hey, wait six months and they'll sell you an Android phone that's also slightly behind everyone else and looking older by the day... hard to believe it's the same company really.

How can you say that it's "sllightly behind everyone else" when it's ( to my knowledge ) the first android phone with a snapdragon processor, a 4 inch screen with a 1500mha battery... Sure SE my have lost the inovation they where known for, but i think this is an realy nice comeback. And their mediocre Symbian phone is from what I have heard one of (two?) phones that may actually be considered as a replacment for a ordianary compact camera.

Re: Xperia X10's screen
Right now Google Android OS supports 16bit only. X10's hardware can use more colors.

I have replied to that again. I hope we'll get another great reply for that as well

Last reply:

This is great news. Thanks for the reply.

I'm sure this will make a big difference for customers to choose this phone over many others.

So we should expect 262K or 16m colours support if/when X10 gets Android 2.0 update. Could you share what will be the colour depth that we will be seeing when we get Android 2.0 update for X10.

As you can see I already consider this phone as my next phone. =)

Re: Xperia X10's screen

Hi,

I don't know how many colors Google Android 2.0 can support but our phone can support 16 millions colors.

Haven't we discussed this before? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it Android 1.6 limiting the amount of screen colours and handsets with Android 2.0 are being reserved for Google Experience phones?

Then don't choose to use ANDROID .. That is not an excuse.... ! And Android WILL support 16m colors by the time x10 hit the stores ...with A 2.0... So ... it will be an old phone...by then

then YOU don't choose the X 10 and get the Satio or something.
Why bitch about something that's clearly not your kind of phone? Get something else.

Because it isn't the first for any of that yet. You're doing exactly what SE want and talking about the *announced* product as if it's already on the shelves - in reality it isn't ready and won't be available for months yet. In the meantime, more seasoned Android hands such as HTC are due to release Snapdragon-powered Android phones before Christmas, and it's quite probable there may be others by the time the X10 finally limps into view.

Even ignoring the fact that this phone isn't due out till February at the earliest, there are already Android phones on the market now running the later and greater version 2.0. The phone SE have announced for release next year is out of date right now.

In the words of The Register in their review, "a decent operating system and an above-par camera can’t save this expensive, uncomfortable phone from obscurity" - http://www.reghardware.co.uk/[....]meraphone_sony_ericsson_satio/

I would be very surprised if HTC released another handset before christmas. Its now mid november and by this time I would think its already to late if you want to release for the christmas sales. And by the way, I own an HTC device and I wont do that mistake again. The only thing keeping me from throwing it away is the fact that I can update it with custom ROMs to make it at least usable. So newer again a HTC. And about Android 2.0, i see nothing worth updating for except the new google maps with navigation. The rest of the improvements SE has already taken care of.

I know I just said "ignore Boinng", but I can't let this idiocy go on.

I'm sorry, "such as HTC" what?

Mr. Peter Chou himself has said on record that they COULD do an Android version of the Leo right now, but they WON'T because WinMo is their flagship OS. Who died and made you Pope so that you can override his authority?

There are already Android what?

There is ONE Android phone out there with 2.0. ONE.
And it so happens is that it is a Google Experience device. None of the existing phones have been assured a 2.0 upgrade officially except the Hero and guess what? It runs on shitty hardware.

For someone chastising SE for announcing a phone months before release, you have NO RIGHT to talk about how the competition MAY have better phones. When they DO come out, you'll have a valid point. As of right now, this is one of the most complete phones not just on Android, but on all given platforms. Jesusphone included.

Till then, you have absolutely nothing worthwhile in your rants. nadda.

If they don't put it out in December then it'll be very soon after - they're leaders in the Android field, they're already using the Snapdragon in winmo (in a device that's actually on the market), and they don't announce phones six months in advance like SE.

And by the way, I own an HTC device and I wont do that mistake again. The only thing keeping me from throwing it away is the fact that I can update it with custom ROMs to make it at least usable. So newer again a HTC.

I own one too and can fully sympathise, but seriously, as much as I imagine you're hoping this isn't the case, SE have NOTHING to shout about when it comes to hardware or software quality control - they've long since ruined their reputation there too.

And about Android 2.0, i see nothing worth updating for except the new google maps with navigation. The rest of the improvements SE has already taken care of.

That's just silly - SE have added third party apps for some additional features over 1.6, but 2.0 is a new version of the OS, integrating and optimising those features into core itself, together with other improvements - plainly better.

PS - I never said I'd ignore Synn, but I will anyway.

You mean the Navigation Maps? What else is beta? To be fair, I think the point is it's a phone designed and built around 2.0, you get a 2.0 experience in the box and it'll undoubtedly take the future 2.x updates with ease. With the X10, SE seem to have taken this completely backwards step in centering everything around 1.6, for a phone being released next year when everyone else will be prepping 2.0 upgrades. It makes no sense until you consider SE's recent track record, and you realise that internally, they probably had this pegged for a Q3 release originally...
