Just a thought, having the w900i and all the cool feautures for themes i have never goten any "nice" gif animations to run smooth, (made em my self opimized all i could) the cpu or memory could not just handle it, nor even the "light blob" animation that comes with the phone is smooth will the newer phones like p1 and w960i be able to have nice stylish themes with animations more than 3 frames without slowdowns making them look very ugly? |

I was very upset with the review from mobile burn. Normally i hold them in very high regard but it seems to me that the reviewer was being overly critical, i want to even say that he had a bad unit, not because im a se fanboy but because most other sites had decent reviews of the p1i.
I'd say you're probably not used to reviews of new phones beeing that critical. I actually enjoyed reading it simply because 99% of todays reviews of ALL kind of gadgets (not only of mobile phones) are just too positive. The explanation is very simple.
Review sites and magazines need to claim a new device before it's released to have time to properly test it, hence they often get a "pre-production model". The mobile phone companies are happy to hand these out, but very often with conditions. If the reviewer decide to write something negative about the device, hardware or software, he/she needs to explain that it's not the final product that is beeing reviewed and that it could be fixed before it's released. In the conclusion of the review it may not be allowed to let that factor affect the grade of the product, or the reviewer may not get any more pre-production model in the future from that company.
I'm not saying ALL review sites and magazines are like this, but a scaring majority for sure. |

Considering how good mobileburn reviewed the iphone, when it has clearly serious limitations for people that know what a advanced mobile phone is (that leaves out most of americans), i ´d say mobile burn lost all of its credibility...

I agree. I don't think anyone should go by the reviews of pre-production unit as even the specs are subject to change before the first shipment goes out - from what I have learnt.
The same goes for early adopters. Everyone is aware of the issue that are to be ironed out in early examples. The best bet would be to wait a month or two to buy any new model as you have more chance of picking up a trouble free unit AND there will also, more than likely, be a price drop too.

Anyone seen the new offerings from Nokia?.... All expected to be revealed tomorrow... I'm as big a Sony cell fan as anyone else on this thread, but still, I'm really really tempted. Just google 8gb N95 or N81 to peep photos of some hot new phones sure to give the W960i a run for it's money! |

On a slightly different note - I just spoke to T-Mobile. They said they WILL be stocking the W960.
Alas, no definite date for release.
Seeing as they didnt stock the W950 it's good to hear they will be doing the W960 |

Does anyone know if the W960 touchscreen is hard glass like the iPhone or is it just the same as the P1?

It's a hard screen that is flush with the surface.

Haven't seen a post from you for quite a while, hopefully you're still around.
Since you got to play around with the W960i, can you let me know if the 3 soft keys can be pressed not by pressing right on them on screen, but by pressing slightly below (ie. where the 3 Walkman functions play/pause, prev and next are) ? This would mean that that part of the phone is permanently touch-sensitive (not only when Walkman is on) and that would avoid a lot of smudge on the screen.
I'd love to know about that (sorry if it doesn't look like such a big deal to most people !!)
Hi,
Not been on the boards for a bit, just saw your post.
I've just got a new prototype which has a few small improvements. I'll have a check and let you know.
I do think that the audio controls are linked with the keyboard and not the touch screen though.
EDIT: No, you have to touch the screen. The phone is a finger print magnet anyway, so you'll soon forget about things like that.
