In case you were swithering over the TyTn (or even the Nokia E70), AllAboutSymbian have a nice side-by-side comparison: http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]/Nokia_E70_versus_HTC_TyTN.php |

Yup @jah, would love to know how did you manage 45mb of free memory??? I even deleted the demo video hoping to get more memory. I did install swiss manager, thats the first app i put in but like someone pointed out, you need to constantly check and make sure SM is running. Besides after a while eventhough SM running and terminating apps on flip close, I still see some memory leak unless you reboot.
As for firmware, I dont believe the rumor of a release every 2 weeks although there will definately be one coming soon and still I reckon will not address all issues. Like I sigh... its been one year we ( at least I) was eagerly waiting for 990i and its such a disappointment. Its a good phone no doubt but the price factor and timing of its availability IMHO had killed it. The prices are dropping fast in this region. Personally I do believe a new successor or a new series will come pretty soon. There is a limited thing one can make good of a launched product and 990i will be 1 year old on 10 Oct 2006. |

@bytes
two types of memory:
1. Flash for user data and apps. Eg. emails & SMS. About 55MB from fresh start
2. RAM for running apps, about 16mb on re-boot

@ mlittle
the review on allaboutsymbian is not up to date. they mention only 15 fps on the video recording, while the P990i has a 30 fps recording capability. So I guess Mr. Steve Litchfield (review posted on Sept 28th !!!!) needs to do a better job reading teh specs?!

ok Jah, got it!? Can see it in storage manager, but that flash memory indicated there is not reliable. Although it shows 50% available, I could still not open basic apps like messaging when my inbox is full.
Thanks anyway. Shucks I forgot that i have ordered martin fields screen protector to my 990i, still not arrived yet but my 990i is gone. Threw a lot of good money on this SE "top of the line" phone!? |

@Jah
The memory problems people have is not with the memory in the phone for apps and programs. The memory that is the problem is of cause the RAM... witch just dissapear from the phone after a few hours use..
Problems with the other memory is easy fixed with a bigger memorycard.

Yes I know I have 2 P990s - but I got the impression that people were mixinig-up the memory the Messaging Inbox uses (ie Flash memory) with memory used for apps (i.e. RAM) |

I have two P990s with different firmware version and a M600 so I am familiar with the issues. I also have used and owned: Nokia 9500, Nokia 7710, HTC Universal, HTC TyTN, SE P800, SE P900, SE P910, Palm LifeDrive, Palm Treo 650 and Sony Clie TH55. So I have some appreciation of mobile device architectures, memory management and software problems. But we are now getting a bit off topic. My goal was to explian the different types of memory and the problems related to them

Send me an e-mail to contacts@sonyericsson.serounaoser.com (my web site) and I'll send you the list of e-mails of some people that work inside Sony Ericsson, Symbian OS and UIQ.
Let's stop complaining in the wrong places and DO SOMETHING about those bugs talking directly with the people inside those organizations !!
