Thanks heaps for the info Ricky D.
Might give it a go with VPN later...the only things i'm interested in are PlayNow and maybe Spotify but not even sure if these are worth it...
Think I'm on indonesian firmware as well and even trying the Asia Pacific region from http://www.sonyericsson.com/update/locale it doesn't seem to have an update...guess will just have to wait...I need the chinese keyboard...I just want Timescape and Mediascape to be faster cos sometimes it lags a little...but other than that, still think this phone is great and Android rules....the X10 update should bring with it scrolling animations when viewing pictures in Mediascape I read somewhere...hope thats true...
One more question, if my phone is on indonesian firmware, is it possible to change to original Hong Kong firmware? I bought this phone in HK...I assume this is possible through root?...

I just spoke to someone on xda-developer and they have extracted the Chinese keyboard to an apk for me just now. I've not tried it yet, but I'm looking up how to flash to UK generic then I'm going to install the keyboard and cross my fingers. I'm going to try it on another phone first. Maybe my gfs Hero.
edit: unless someone here has an X10 without the chinese keyboard & hwr and wants to test it for me?

This new firmware hasn't improved battery life for me; my phone is losing around 8% per hour. Looking at the battery stats; I see the following:
Display: 86% (under the old firmware it was around 43%, I believe)
Cell Standby: 6%
Android System: 4%
Phone Idle: 3%
Handcent SMS: 2%
I have 3G switched off, as well as bluetooth, GPS and WiFi. The phone has mostly been sitting in my pocket with the screen off, as I am at work today.
Anyone else suffering from high battery usage with the new firmware? Under the previous firmware my phone lost about 2-3% per hour.

I found out 3G watchdog is draining battery like crazy.......I uninstalled it along with advanced task killer ...........I am now able to use the phone for 2 days without charging. |

Oh wow, I didn't realize the Rogers X10a got the update, awesome! Sucks for those of us on generic X10a firmware I guess. I'm currently on generic Brazil R1FB001 or whatever it is. Hopefully we get the update soon too! |

I done a baseline test on firmware R2BA023 overnight and its returns to levels of R1BA001 firmware. So I am going back on to R2BA020 as that seems to have the best battery life at the moment.

I've gone back to R1FA016 in order to save my battery. The power drain under R2BA020 was ridiculous. I took a photo of the newer firmware's effects before downgrading:
And here's the battery status on R1FA016 after the downgrade:

In the new FW upgrade have they fixed the camera light shortcut so one don't have to go via the settings to turn on the light?

No Firmware update available via OTA or SEUS in India at the moment. Just had a go at updating...
Waiting for it eagerly as i hoping it solves the sorry battery life issues on 016..
