aha.Well we knew for the previous announcement officially,so this is a little bit strange,isn't it?

Gotta say. If some of you (those of you begging for an SE N95 equivalent) were running a mobile phone company, you'd be bankrupt. No doubt about it. Producing ultra technology packed phones may be good for Japan, but in the rest of the world it's called stupidity. My 2 cents.
@KingBooker5
Don't be so down about Sofia. It exists, but the mobile market has changed since the end of last year, and Sofia has been revised to accommodate.
@BILLOO
The Sofia was just dismantled. It's not like the P990's flip.
@all
About my certainty regarding some info like the BRAVIA screens; I didn't mean to make it sounds as though Sofia and Shinobu will have BRAVIA screens. I admit my wording was wrong (will is a little strong) - but the whole point of the first thread is to save people having to read through many, many pages of rumours. But I do still filter the information to separate the totally out-there rumours from the stuff that sounds plausible.
Same goes for the announcement dates, and the phones to be announced. Take everything with a pinch of salt!
And I'm a little surprised that you have only just seen the Sofia for the first time. We've had it for quite a while. On the first post
If you look closely there are few things to note:
• The interface looks very UIQ-like. Not the current generation, but possibly the next...
• The interface doesn't look similar to the one found on the Z750 (softkey labels-wise). They read 'Select' 'Play' 'Back' I believe.
• A lot more blue photo lights.
And if 'in theory' that phone is UIQ, then Sofia is a different phone, because if we use what thecoolsha says, Sofia is not a UIQ phone.
In 2007 the company was setting off to launch at least around 7 handsets, out of which three will be the base editions and the other four will act as variations (music edition, with/without camera, enabled/disabled WiFi). But these intentions will never become something bigger and more real; over there they have totally revised the UIQ-related strategy.
Disappointing news. But fingers crossed for some other phones. Wonder if it means Maria is cancelled...
And please. Can you guys please post in English unless you plan on translating it? Otherwise we might be sent to the regional forums
UPDATE:
- Lizy pictures added.
- Lizy may not be cancelled anymore.
- Sofia may use a white AF assist lamp so that it can double as a light for recording.
- Sofia 'official' picture added. Placed under 5 megapixel Cyber-shot.
- Sofia is a little larger than predicted (probably to accommodate the larger screen), and will be 2mm wider than originally thought. That makes it 102x48x17mm.
- The W52S has been announced.
- T125
Low end candybar. 128x160 screen.
- P3i
Possibly the P990 successor with a flip.

Shaliron: Does this mean Nokia will go bankrupt, like, soon? If yes, could you specify the date maybe?
Sorry, sarcasm off.
Seriously though, I don't think it's necessary to talk down on those of us who miss the innovation and technology leadership SE used to be known for.
SE wants to become #3 or better in the global phone market and the only way they can accomplish this is if they can offer better products than the competition at similar or lower price points and can match, within a reasonable timeframe (say, 1 quarter), anything the market leader comes up with.
I believe Sofia has been pushed back by at least 6 months from what they have originally planned and, while I'm sure they had their reasons, the phone is seriously late. Yet I for one can live with this.
My biggest concern is this:
1, Most of the products we have seen this year are simply re-packaged, some millimeters thinner, or alternative design-versions of existing models. There is no major advancement in screen or camera technology. No 16 million colors (yet), no 16:9 (yet), no or few 2+ inch candybar/slider, no 5 megapixel (yet), no optical zoom (if ever). Sofia *might* have some of these. Might.
2, While this is very subjective, most of the people around here tend to agree that design wise - if those pictures are valid - Sofia is a bloody train wreck. The W880, W580, K810, z610, z750, s500 and even the ultra boring T650i are all very elegant, superbly designed phones. Even the P1 and P3 (spypics) looks OK, tough i do not like QWERTY phones.
What the hell were they smoking designing Sofia?! |

I think Se waits to counter in the right moment. All phones from Se that came later than from other companies were better. For example the camera of K800i is much better than from a Nokia. Think back to the times when Sharp was everytime the first who brought new camera phones like gx10.
So i think Sofia will beat the pants off Nokia, Samsug and LG
cheers

@beta-tester...
I just hope so...
I think maybe
1- has changed Sofia to be a UIQ phone...
2- made Sofia, then changed it, that UIQ 5mp one is still another one.
3- the one we saw as Sofia, is not sofia, it's just the 5mp UIQ phone...

@shaliron - I take my words back.
latest news i got, is that it will be UIQ. But it should be a new version - possibly 3.1 or even higher (please note, that anything can change, however it should be pretty certain).
also this navigation system and keypad layout is quite interesting and should work pretty well in practice.
EDIT: looks like listened when u said you wanted a smartphone candybar from huh?

well this is v.goood indeed guys !!
thats why I'm seeing is taking too much for Sofia after looking the prices of it's father and grandfather
but I wonder what will do to cover the price hole between K810/K800/K750 price range and Sofia...
that's if Sofia is really really K800/K810 successor !!, who knows it may be a new high end range !!

Want to add that so long awaited UIQ non-TS phone will appear soon, having 3,2 mp camera, qvga screen
and i think will use uiq 3.2 not 3.1
from P1 review
(For instance, in the middle of 2007, SIP is getting to be the standard component for Java in JP-8 for A100 platform, the Sony Ericsson Z750 is the first example of that. At the same time, this technology may materialize in UIQ only starting from version 3.2 (in the same scope an implementation fashion).
)

For some strange reason I'm starting to get interested in the T125. I was hoping SE would bring out a low end phone in the style of the T100 to counter the Nokia 1100. So no colour display like in the J-series, no Polyphonic ringtones etc. Just a simple and cheap phone, I mean if LG can deliver a 1$ phone (LG NS1000) why can't SE make a 10$ one?

I know but it's been so long since SE had an Ultra low end phone. It's true that they can't compete with Nokia in that segment but I think it would be nice to see the very young and old being able to get a SE that fits their needs here in Europe. The very young because of the price and the old because they think simple and easy-to-use are one and the same, oh and their cheap asses (at least here in the Netherlands ).

@mrdoubleb
Well, for a company like SE, do you think that they don't have the tech to make a phone like the N95? They have the tech. The only reason why they haven't made one is because of marketing - marketing to make more money.
Nokia is a lot richer than SE and they can afford to suffer a loss on some of their phones. They've already got an established market presence. That's what SE is trying to do this year. It's for the shareholders.
But the ultimate phone will come with time. Timing is everything. Look at the Sofia.
@thecoolsha
Wow. That's big news.
I guess some of us (myself included) were right when we saw that proto and thought it was UIQ. So I'm guessing it'll be the first non-touchscreen UIQ phone from SE.
That must have been the revised UIQ strategy that Eldar talked about - changing Sofia to UIQ.
Meaning that SE is beginning to bring smartphones to the masses, like Nokia.
UPDATE:
- The T125i is actually the code number for the T250.
- The T250 was code named Olga.
- Sofia is going to be UIQ!!! Version 3.1 or higher.
So we can finally talk about that strange green phone as though it's a real phone now.
