It's most likely L3.

Heat issue and insufficient data transfer rate make 4k100 is impossible.
Down sampling require LOT OF computation power. Another dedicated chips? Forget about the heat and waiting time?

No, I said Sony mirrorless can do 4K30 10 bit at 100Mbps not 100fps.
Smartphones have much more raw power than cameras.
The advantages of the cameras are the bigger sensors.
For example, the rx100 V .... Bit over 10min of 1080p30 is enough for the overheating pop up to show up.
While newer Xperia can do 4K much longer ...
They pushed 4K when not even the 4k tvs were much popular.
They pushed 4K HDR when you still barely have content to watch.
There is the 4K HDR HLG recording.
I saw a post that says the flaship will have 3 things that will be first in mobile world.
One about screen, one about cam and something else unknown.
3 different weibo users posted about 8K recording.

Personally I don't think a phone will have 8K video capture until 2020 at least. The amount of storage needed would be insane too and I doubt any SD card could handle the write speed of the amount of data being captured at anyone time.
8K is something that will definitely be happening in 2020 as Sony have already confirmed it'll shoot the Tokyo Olympic Games in the said resolution but to products available to the average consumer will no doubt be out of most peoples price range to begin with.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

The A7sIII is tipped to be 8K.
Probably the A7R4 and A92 will be too.
The 8K Crystal LED tv shall be at CES..
The blog SAR said they are planning to use a new codec XEVC instead of HEVC for their mirrorless.
Someone here said that phone would have own ISP, not relying on Spectra.
XJ, do we see imx664 (1/1.8" 48MP) inside next phone?

Don't forget it is a quad bayer sensor, so it probably uses 8K worth of pixel area for regular 4K anyway.
Maybe Sony will advertise this as downsampling but I doubt actual 8K recording will be available considering 8K is 33.2 MP. Maybe simple math is not the way to calculate this but even at 24fps 33.2MP seems a bit too much even for the beastly new processors of today. |

Let's be real.. do we really need 8K? I mean, 4K is only STARTING to become mainstream. I'd say the vast majority of people still don't have a 4K display of any kind and now we're talking about 8K? I mean, what's the point? Even your phone won't be able to enjoy the quality. The only benefit is the extra data to resample down to a 4K size and have more detail to work off of. That being the case, I'm in agreement with XJ. Don't think we'll see it til 2020 at the earliest.

Smartphones have more raw power for compute calculations but I doubt that the image sensors in a smartphone is anywhere near as powerful as the ones found in the best DSLRs.
As far as I am aware of, the Sony top tier cameras don't do 10 bits HDR recording. The only ones doing 10 bits are the Fujifilm Tx-3 and Nikon Z6 and 7.
The latest rumor slipping out from sumahoinfo has it that one of the camera sensors in the Xperia XZ4 will be ToF sensor.
What good does ToF camera do for everyday usage?

With a ToF sensor you can create a depth map.
-You can blur the background more precisely in pictures, you could even change the focus after taking the picture.
-Best AR Effect
-Create 3D models of objects faster
-Facial unlocking without the need for spot projection

Tof sensor is actually pretty good.
I think sony should go for a 2x lens than b/w sensor...
The xz2 premium didnt get enough attention even with all its low light prowess |

that's cause it's low light prowess isn't as good as pixel 3 and barely comparable to mate pro 2. i haven't been able to find a direct comparison between xzp2 and pixel 3 but there are plenty against mate pro 2 and xzp2 doesn't blow it out of the water for still photos. xzp2 does beat the competition in low light video. this is where it truly shines.
I was hoping it could do better.. or maybe it's a case of poor reviewer execution. who knows. in any case, the results it produces doesn't make it enough to talk about.
unfortunately, if sony wants to stay relevant they will probably stick with the formula they had with the xz3. that phone received the best reviews of any sony phone in the last 10 years. sure, it wasn't very popular among sony fan boys but it was popular among the masses, and that's what will make them money.
i wouldn't be surprised if xz4 and xz4p follow the same design language and features with more refinement.
here's to MWC 2019! (wow.. can't believe it'll be 2019.. i'm so old).

The issue with these tests is the fact they will use Pixel on Night Sight against the other phones on auto.
That is not fair.
The UHS does not activate all the time on auto, only when phone considers necessary.
And usually goes 1/16s or 1/32s.
Link below is the first xz2p vs mate 20 pro I saw ..
