Paint job on the XZ is ridiculously bad. Just a warning everyone.
Nougat seems great though, I got it today. |

Just wondering XZ owners who came over from the Z5. What differences have you noticed?

I came exactly from Z5.
It's faster, smoother, more effective.
The screen is much brighter and better under sunlight.
The camera also better.

I also came from the Z5 (before that Z3+ and Z3). The screen (brightness) and camera are better. Overall it feels like a smoother, better handset, except the build quality. Build quality of the XZ is terrible. The paint on the plastic rim falls of really easy, like only by it touching other objects is enough for the paint to fall off leaving grey "stains" on an otherwise beautiful blue surface.
I would love some build quality like the Z3 compact tablet. I can't count the times I have dropped that thing on concrete floor and other surfaces by over 1.5m and not a scratch so far (no cover). |

The screen is damn fine.
So is the whole experience from the previous generation.

Got it yesterday Forest Blue Dual-SIM model, upgrade from Z3 Compact
overall system smoothness and display clarity are two huge improvements to me
camera ridiculously quick focus, haven't play anything much apart from setting up device
One hopefully fix in next update is switching between networks will not require to restart.

as S41ks said, my only complaint with the xz is the plastic. the design makes the phone feel really good in the hand. the size is perfect with a bigger screen than the Z1. but yea, the plastic is a disappointment due to the fact that it will and does scratch easily. it's something i am a little anxious about and why i continue to keep a clear plastic case around my XZ. not to mention the metal back does scratch pretty easily too, but that's metal for you. Would have been nice if this new metal compound they're using was hard enough to resist scratches at least to the same level as gorilla glass.
overall i love my XZ though. camera and screen are great. general usage is very fast but I have noticed occasional lag at times. It could be what I have installed and what I have running. I notice that my RAM is constantly at about 80% usage, which makes me a little sad and wish that it had 4GB instead of 3. Sony's software may be optimized but the apps that I use probably aren't as well optimized, sadly.
anyway, happy holidays to all! post some holiday pics shot with your XZ!

I would guess that plastic side is part of antenna design, it is trade off which would make better quality of signal.
Unless if they want to build metal unibody design with antenna stripes, that would need to pay royalty to nokia.

Please take a second to analyze the result.
It scores very well besides the artifacts.

doministry - i was LOLing cause i don't think it gives a fair impression of what the XZ camera can do. i did look over all the results with the same conclusion as you. i think they can improve it more with future updates if they choose to.

Sony Xperia XZ: Premium Camera For Smartphone Photography Enthusiasts
https://www.dxomark.com/Mobil[....]tphone-photography-enthusiasts
P.S: DxOMark team were particularly impressed by the XZ's AF-system that is fast and accurate in all conditions.
They also liked the target-exposure, color and reliable white balance system. However, the Sony scored low for photo artifacts, such as haloing, ringing, and over-sharpening and lacked dynamic range in some situations.
Overall photo score was 87 points.
Thanks to its efficient video stabilization and exposure adaption the XZ could achieve an even better 88 points for its video mode. However, like the still images, video clips lack dynamic range and show some noise in low light scenes.
The Sony's overall score of 87 points puts it on the same level as the Sony Xperia Z5 and just behind the Sony Xperia X Performance, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10 and mainly Google Pixel.

Yeah. So in fact, in most areas it's a great camera.
That's what I also think and experience.
Ths focusing is fantastic on this phone.
The colour reproduction is fantastic too.
