I'll throw in a little something here.
What happens with the amount of colours on the LCD when the X10 get's upgraded to 2.0?

I suspect the LCD of the X10 is capable of much more than 65k.

That's why i blame SE's marketing....
Back in 2003-4 p800 was one of the first mobile phones on the market using
-touchscreen
-external memory
-camera
-4096 colors
-mp3/mp4 player
-and OS (symbian/uiq 2.0)
and the ONLY MOBILE ψομβινεδ all these features together !!
and now.....
-no multitouch(yeah!i know!after half a year from now...if there is an update...if they support... if if if may have )
-memory capacity not enough (8gb in package ... for a 2010 model .. which btw you can't remove without turnin off the device)
-camera is good..but not the best
-colors are bad and far behind competition
-no DIVX ,HD support (pray again for 3rd party apps >> more money)
-and OS is old too
BUT STILL THE SAME PRICE.............
Buying a p800 back then i had all that a high end phone has... I had bought high specs not "may have..in future" specs
I hope that they WILL change some specs before releasing the final product... starting from screen

Haven't we discussed this before? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it Android 1.6 limiting the amount of screen colours and handsets with Android 2.0 are being reserved for Google Experience phones?

Then don't choose to use ANDROID .. That is not an excuse.... ! And Android WILL support 16m colors by the time x10 hit the stores ...with A 2.0... So ... it will be an old phone...by then

I think I'll wait for the production models and judge for myself.
I don't really care about the specs - power is nothing without control, as someone once put it.
I'm more interested in how it performs in real life and how it feels to use in real life.
So if the screen happens not to have the greatest depth of colour but the UX is breathtaking then that's enough for me to consider getting one.

Re: Xperia X10's screen
Right now Google Android OS supports 16bit only. X10's hardware can use more colors.

I think this is the real crux of it for me, the reason why when I see people around here trying to rave over the lacklustre crop of recent SE phones I despair. SE used to be capable of so much more - the P800 may not have had the same mainstream support, but in many other ways it was the iPhone of its day, absolutely class leading in every respect and basically the ONLY phone of its type. SE could do that then - they invented things, and weren't afraid to innovate and do something the best it could be done.
Compare that to the sorry state we're in now, just waiting perpetually for SE to release their next attempt to catch up with the rest of the market - if you don't want their mediocre same-as Symbian phone then here's their outdated Winmo handset, or hey, wait six months and they'll sell you an Android phone that's also slightly behind everyone else and looking older by the day... hard to believe it's the same company really.

What does this mean, will the screen support 24bit?
