Huh, Nokia has improved in leap and bounds over the last year or 2. Everyone als is playing the 'catch up game' I feel sorry for SE. By investing in low end cells have improved (doubled !) the profit but still, no market share gain :-( Nokia on the other hand have added another 1% and now they have 35% ! And also look at the Nokia's share price over the last 6-months ! Greetings from South Africa. Mario.

@bavlondon2 It's interesting how you read somewhere that the N93 will have DVD quality video and you take it as gospel. I have yet to see ANY mobile phone that has claimed such quality, for that matter I have yet to see any Point-and-Shoot digital camera make such claim, which is interesting because that type of technology would first come to those cameras before thay make it small enough to fit inside a phone. The closest I have found so far is a web blog which mentions the N93 in one article and then talks about DVD quality on your cell phone in another http://tinyurl.com/oyjx6 . Your obsession with Video capture quality in a mobile phone seems to blind you a bit (personal opinion). For what it's worth the Nokia (N73) seems like a decent phone and will probably be a good alternative to the SE K800. For me it's not even close for one simple reason - I'm biased towards SE and I dislike Nokia UI. I have used Nokia and Motorola and Siemens and I like the menues on SE best.
FWIW The only Digital capture device that has anywhere close to HD/DVD quality capture capabilities is the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1 which is capable of recording video at 720p (that's 1280x720 progressive)
edit: I just saw the Nokia Press Release on the N93/73. I like how they claim "DVD-like" quality video recording, yet never mention the actual resolution...

yep.. ive read that one too... IMHO its kinda like sarcastic on the part of NOKIA, making people (legit techies) guess on how much the real resolutions are... sheeeshh.. publicity stunts. not to mention the N73 has alot of similarities with the W800.. well anyway its out of the point...

Ok so nokia have quotes vga 30 fps second 640 by 480 as well as actually quoting DVD quality, hence the authoring software included. And here is a sample taken with the n93
http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=35088&page=5
If after watching that and are adament that the k800 will be more popular than the n93 or 73 for that matter you are deluded.

i read on a mobile-review forum that its rumored that although the k800/k790' video recording won't be top-notch, apparently it will record in 320x240 (full screen)... which although i'm actually not that bothered about the video recording, as i thought the k750's was good for what it is, SE can at least give make it full screen video recording... this true?
are any white papers, even early ones out yet?

@bavlondon2 IF you think that this clip was a realistic representation of the real life quality of video from the N93, you are delusional. But this is beside the point - which is, NOT everyone is that interested in video recording. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want this kind of quality out of the K800, what I am saying is, I could go with or without it. To me the rest of the features of the K800 is what make it a great phone. As it is, it doesn't look like the US will be getting the K800, only the K790 so I'll have to settle for EDGE speeds... |

@Xugaa > check out http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/index.php the third article down is the K800 white paper, page 33-34 specifically states 176x144 resolution (34 talks about the video call camera). If it'll be 320x240, it'll be a big departure from what they've already published.

Announced price in Sweden at internet store Katshing - 3950 SEK! I preordered it some weeks ago, suggested price was set to 5400 SEK, so guess if I'm happy now. I'm number 125 on waiting list, so with some luck I should get it fairly soon. Can't believe I'm this excited over a freggin' phone at the age of 31. =)
Now the waiting begins, preliminary delivery date is set to the 20th of June, but we all know SE by now... =)

damn. but white papers can change and often do, ecspecially as there is still quite a bit of time before the k800 comes out.

it doesnt matter what size it is, SE will still use QCIF. 320 by 240 will just mean rubbish but bigger video

Are we still having a whinge about the K800's video quality? We should rename this thread "Lets have a cry about the K800's video quality".
It's getting old people... Oh Hum!
Remember, SE have marketed this phone as a Camera phone, not a Video phone.
The little sticker says Cybershot not a Handycam - it's all about marketing you see?
Rant over. |

Actually the debate is now over the lack of video in light of Nokias new handsets. |

Well, they (Katshing) say that this is the final price. So I guess it is! But mistakes can be made of course. I'll pay regardless... =)

From both companies websites:
Nokia N93
"Make Movie Magic."
K800i
"Cyber-shot™ digital still camera. And mobile phone."
So until SE announces a "Handycam™ digital video camera. And mobile phone" we can just forget about the lack of HD video in the K800.
