There is something I don't like with coreplayer or the fact it slows your SMS typing significantly.
Is there any way to shut off word prediction?

@SE-Naz, hard to say about battery life after one day really, and also it spends alot of its time connected (and therefore charging) on USB while I transfer screen captures etc

I'm still trying to decide about the panels, are they gimmicky or are they useful? probably using this during the week while doing normal business activities might better answer that but most of the rest of the operating system is classic WM, so not much to say there.

its been well designed, thats for sure. While it may be HTC built, I do like the buttons and the optical joystick and the design around them to give the X (for xperia) look.

Having used the Diamond, I would probably have preferred this without the physical keyboard and with a better virtual keyboard and then I would be totally convinced, but for a first WM outing, SE (with HTC) have done a very nice job and the device feels very comfortable in the hand.

I'm finding sound could be louder as I have tried music videos that have been used on the TyTN II and Diamond are quieter on the X1.

No crashes or hangs so far, as expected with WM 6.1, and its good that SE have hidden the soft reset button under the battery cover as you really don't need it these days.

Panels can be laggy if you load a panel and expect to be able to switch to another panel immediately, but once initialised there is no lag. It seems the panels with more content have some startup time but then unless you're playing with the phone, you're not going to be changing from panel to panel every minute or two

all in all after 1 day I'm happy to accept this into my pocket

Cant you install the HTC diamond's keyboard .cab to replace the onscreen keyboard?

as for cam quality, check the Post your pictures (and videos) taken with your X1 topic

Definitely the outdoors pictures are very good. The indoors hmm... I understand they are under low lighting , maybe changing settings they may look a lot better.

Question: the pictures look on my computer screen very "squarish" I was expecting a 9:15 aspect ration or at least 3:4 What is the resolution before any conversion or resampling for the computer?

Thanks

Thanks for the hint! I didn't notice the reset button before. I have had three lockups this far where I had to remove the battery. I'd prefer using the reset button, even though I really have no clue if it would make any difference.

If you look in my post from yesterday you will have four picture taken directly out of the camera. They are 2048 x 1536 pixels, which means an aspect ratio of 3:4.
There is however a widescreen setting, but then the pictures will be 2048 x 1280, which means the original picture is actually cropped.

Try one of these keyboard cabs...I would of thought it should work.

Thanks for the last pic. I waited to see X1 vs P1. If it is possible plese give a short summary about differences between two regarding user friendliness, etc, what you are happy about and what you miss. Thanks in advance

@Koto

I have been playing with the X1, my first WM phone, for the last two days and as the P1 is the phone it is replacing it is natural for me to compare the two. Firstly, yes the X1 is a nice phone to be sure in terms of build quality and screen. I had a play with an Omnia a month ago and WM seems to be implemented much better on the X1. That said it was an VODAFONE Omnia who had problems with their firmware.

However I am with Masseur and would rather do without the hard keyboard and have a better on screen keyboard. Also as for the panels I have to say I am not impressed. I find them slow to start up and when on the (9) panels screen the panels do not show active content. All in all the SPB panel is the best IMO for usability / fastest access to the rest of the phone features buried deeper down in WM. Don't get me wrong they are 'ok' but more of a gimmick IMO rather than a must have feature. The X1 just doesn't have the wow factor that I was hoping for. Don't want to say too much about WM because others here have much better knowledge than I. The only thing I will say is that it generally takes more taps to get to what I want compared to my P1.

On my p1 I have 15 shortcut icons on the today screen giving me quicker access to a wider range of apps from one screen. I also miss the jog dial.

Of course the X1 has a better screen, built in GPS and MS Office apps built in. You maybe glad to know there are three different HWR methods of text input, 'Letter Recognizer' being most like the p1.

Is it a must have over the p1? based only on my type of use I would say no, but I will keep it anyway one because I like new things to play with and second because I can. It only cost me £69.99 on a 12 months £20 contract. So nothing to loose really. If you have the p1 and where thinking of buying the X1 Sim free I wouldn't bother but if someone were upgrading from say a k750i clearly the leap for them is going to be more impressive. For me it is not but that is just a personal thing, its still great phone by any standards.

Hope this helps Koto

Cheers JD

@masseur

I think I saw you got a 16gb MicroSD card for your X1. Is it working flawlessly?

no problems so far, but I wouldn't really expect any issues to be honest. I used an 8gb with the TyTN II without issue, until I lost the damn thing 'coz they're so small!

I'm curious, having seen the unboxing pics.
There seems to be a lot of either manuals, advertising bumph, or CD's with the X1.

Would any kind owner be willing to divulge what software comes on the CD (s)?

Is there anything like SE PC suite, or a disc2phone type app?
Or just active sync cos its an MS OS?

Thanks for your patience.

there's only one CD and its labelled "Wayfinder"

I've not broken the seal yet so can't confirm if it has active sync on it, though I suspect not as that would probably come on a separate CD or be labelled on this one.

Windows Vista has "Sync centre" built in, which is the new version of Active sync, otherwise you're just as well to download the latest version of Active Sync from MS if your'e still using XP

again, this is not your typical SE device and so you won't find a PC suite, or disc 2 phone. SE have not really tried to make this look like any of their other offerings really

the other documentation stuff you get includes:-

X1 Support - this is your warranty card essentially and gives you 12 months world wide support as a starter to your normal 2 years warranty in the country of purchase

A sort of getting starting guide

Synchonizing music and video - describes how to get media to your X1 and what folders the Media Xperience panel monitors for playing such content

GPS - location based services, google maps, wayfinder install guide, web feeds, live messenger etc

Panel info

Opera Mobile 9.5 guide

Service and support, warranty and other legal type info

It's Active Sync, and it also comes with WayFinder in different languages.

Nice one Masseur, i leave everything in the box intact so as not to hurt resale value if i need to pass phone's on .
The X1 is a really decent effort from S-E, is it at all laggy in any area, since moving on to BB's i'm now hypercritical of some WM and S60 devices in that dept.
