4.3 announced: 24.07.2013 /// Z1 running 4.2.2 announced: 4.09.2013 /// updated to 4.3: 16.12.2013 5 month
I see a trend there. 8 month, 7 month and "only" 5 month with Z1

I think these upgrades are necessary for 2015 flagships from Sony:
- 2K display
- same 20.7 mpx Exmor RS sensor as Z3 but with raw mode support, phase detection, optical image stabilization (applicable to 4k video recording as well), better digital processing
- better algorithm for camera and video processing
- HAAC mics for video recording
- dual-tone flash
- Snapdragon 810 SOC LTE-A support
- 32 gb internal memory (anything greater is a waste as the phones wont be supported by Sony after two years)
- fingerfrint and hear-rate sensors
- usb 3.1 or 3.0 with MHL 3
- new UI skin that compliments Sony omnibalance design and less bloatwares (what's new..)
Curved sensor would be nice but Sony should wait until all the camera basics have been covered like the phase detection and ois, and better digital processing before introducing new tech. If not, the improvements that the curved sensor can bring would not be taken advantage of completely.

@ascariss No need to import it from Canada. Do a trip to Germany in next weeks and buy it at Media-Markt or Saturn (biggest and most spread tech/multimadia-stores). Price (also on Amazon.de): 16-GB-WiFi-(399,- Euro), 32-GB-WiFi-(489,- Euro) and 32-GB-LTE (569,- Euro).
European prices are rip offs, 16gb costs 511 usd vs 450 with taxes in canada.
Plus don't really have time to go to germany due to school, there is no train back on sunday. Also the trip to berlin costs easily around 50 euros from here one way, bringing up the cost even more. I'll see if poland is on the list of countries where it will be available but I doubt it. |

I really do think Sony may surprise a few people with how quickly Lollipop 🍭 will be rolled out. None of us expected 4.4.4 on the Z1 range just days after release from Google, in fact Sony got this firmware to devices quicker than what some GPE devices received it. Samsung are only just rolling out this firmware now and HTC wasn't that quick compared to Sony they actually rolled out 4.4.3 while I already had 4.4.4 on my Z1. I know Lollipop is a major update compared to 4.4.4 but I do think Sony may have a Christmas present for the Z3 range.

Z3 and Z3c are first up. By the end of the year, apparently. However, Sony are a shitty company who don't know how to develop software properly so it will probably be delayed by at least two months.

Sony have today confirmed that the entire Z range (that's 14 devices in total) will get Android 5.0 Lollipop with the rollout to begin early 2015. They have yet to confirm which other devices will receive the update such as the M2, T2 Ultra, E3 and so on.

This is a very good move, I guess that this will be the last major upgrade for the original Z phone
The good news is if Sony means by early 2015 is Jan/Feb then it will be good, HTC promised 90 days after they recieve the source from google which might be next week (20/21 Oct if I recall), let's say 20 then 90 days will be 20 Jan.
Jan/Feb for Sony is a very good advance in terms of sw updates, I hope they prove it well and not delayed...

By the time Z will get it, there will be 5.5 or something. Android is hopeless, if you don't buy now horribly overpriced nexus, you're stuck with super slow updates, if you're lucky to get them at all.

Since Google is "outsourcing" core Android apps I really don't need to have the newest Android version immediately . Although Kitkat for the Nexus 4 (my current device) was pushed a few month ago I updated it straight to 4.4.4 just a few weeks ago. I was totally fine with 4.3. The main reason why I will update to 5.0 at day one is mainly because of the new UX. I really hope Sony to let the new 5.0 flat design shine through their new Xperia UX |

What do you mean by " Google is "outsourcing" core Android apps" ?!!! isn't google developing the whole why to outsource their application development ?!!
that doesn't make sense, however any source or reference for outsourcing will be appreciated though..
