' That's my point exactly though... I can't POSSIBLY wait any longer once the P990 is released for a new phone - it's gonna have to be the P990 itself... What kills me is knowing that it'll likely be the very next release which will support DVB-H (and possibly / probably HSPA as well - or at very least HSDPA) - well before th 20-odd months of my contract is up and before I can upgrade...
' I'm gonna have to suck it up and deal with it - suffer through the next release and just drool over it and wait for the release thereafter! <SIGHS!>

LOL@Menagaryl...That's one thing I hate about contracts...what's the issue with networks not offering 12-month contracts as they do in the UK?...You'll pay more for your phone but at least you'll get the option of a free upgrade when the year is out.

At the rate technology is changing they might have to look at this option because there will be people with Nokia 5140's when cellphones are already available locally with HSDPA.

I can see a possible upgrade for the Z710 on the horizon that includes 3G. Alltogether the range of phones are perfectly spread out across all the market segments...but still SE phones are too expensive.

LOL!! SE phones expensive???
Compare to their biggest rivals Nokia SE is very well priced!
Any clown willing to pay R4500 for a N90 compared to a W900 for R3500 knows nothing bout phones or the value of money...

Very few people who got the N90 bought it cash...they all got their phones on contract.

I agree, the asking price on SE remains absurdly high, while the price of their competitor's handsets drops as newer models are phased in. Then there's the Oooh-i've-got-the-latest-phone angle to consider as well.... People are more likely to buy the latest Nokia/Samsung/Moto than an older SE that's similarly priced. I am, of course, referring to JoeSoap, to whom a phone is a phone, and very little more. He understands how to send mms, download from Exactmobile and precious little else. His ringtone is probably "Madam, your phone is ringinggg..." and his wallpaper limited to pix of family... You know the type... They get their music via bluetooth, and think Mxit is the hottest thing since the latest Zuma joke... In short, there are plenty of these people out there... And they're the type who the networks love! Think about it for a moment, how many people in your work environment ever use their phones for the Net, or to create sites, or to participate in forums? Now imagine an entire country peopled by this type of user... Scary aint it?

EDIT- pardon me for being so long-winded. Sitting at a carwash waiting for the KryptMobile to emerge, and this numpty at the next table in the waiting area is holding forth on how many vids his 6230i can store, and how cool his games are. I swear he's paging thru one of those very Exactmobile books waffling on and on about games and tones. Sies man, go online and get it for nix.

Vodacom has been down this whole afternoon folks...here's the story courtesy of SA Press Association. It seems to back up sporadically because I just got off the phone to a Vodacom subscriber.

Midrand - Vodacom on Friday afternoon said it was working "relentlessly" to try and find the problem that caused its network to be unavailable.

Vodacom subscribers could neither make nor receive calls on the network.

"Vodacom apologise to their subscribers who are currently experiencing difficulty making and receiving calls on the network," said Vodacom spokeswoman Dot Field.

She said she did not know when the network would be up and running again, but assured subscribers that the company was working on it as fast as possible.

People who tried to phone from their Vodacom phones got a "network busy" signal. Those phoning the network either got a busy tone or the message that "the number you have dialled does not exist". - Sapa

' Well, every so often I can take comfort in my decision to move and stick to MTN!
' Though admitably the (severe) sorta problem we saw friday with Voda is really an uncommon and notable event with our networks...

@786KBR: C'mon broer, gimme some of that stuff you're smoking because I haven't noticed these price drops you're talking about. The W800i is discontinued but the other day I saw an ad where they were selling the phone for R3200 including starterpack...that's the average price...the W900 goes for R3700 including starterpack...now the question is where wil the W810i be priced...and what about the K800i which should be out around Aug/Sep R4200/4500?

@Menagaryl: Apparently some muppet over at Cell C spilled coffee on the machines that keeps everyone connected

' Hmm... The blokes I know who were involved in the network mess yesterday said something about Cell-C flooding the (Vodacom) network with incompatible / non-conforming messages... The reason for this particular activity I am not aware of - but I can almost believe some putz and his mugga-coffee being a part!

' As for the bulls... Bah.
