i spend a few days away from the thread n i receive all this fire. i gotta get a bluetooth qwerty keyboard. well let's start with general biz!
PART ONE
@mikkyr: i advise against buying any 2nd hand appliance, especially phones, more especially "gadget" phones. phones that r so prone 2 falls, dips in liquid etc, thier life-expectancy can b very disappointin, even when refurbished!
@all: need the speed from the native browser. apps slow it down |

PART TWO
@mamba: i noticed that north-south gist never came up in the thread and i assumed the people here were much more enlightened than the average "educated" naija man. but ur remark about the north resultin from "general statistics" makes me just laff. which stats? southerners, especially Lagosians, dont know much about the north, if they haven't resided here. please take the word of posters that live hear rather than the usual stereotype. |

PART THREE
@egunj & coola: it wasn't a debate about right or wrong. egunj got it, that i was gauging the expectation. what mr a sees as high, mr b may say is low. without any sentiments, i say mr pres and most of the govs (some govs did well, withstanding) didnt do thier job. if u feel he/they did horrible/bad/okay/well/great, i dont see what harm it is 2 say it & back it up with unbiased facts. gettin other views educate if taken with open mind |

Ncc talks all the time about quality of service but I don't think they realise value added services like GPRS are part of service.Free service aside, the quality of data service one gets from MTN is a national catastrophe.I tried opening an 18kb page with opera a while ago and it took ten minutes. Is that not a scandal for a technology that's touted for it's speed?Perhaps, only MTN can explain where they got their own "version" of GPRS! Vmobile on the other hand, refuses to connect through my opera for the past few days. But when it worked,it was magic. Can anybody help?

@ifed: the issue might be that once they start offering fast & reliable wap & mms, revenue from sms will drop unless they charge N2 per sms. at 70k/kb it is much cheaper to send a 10kb mms to a friend with a low res phone photo and enough text to fill 3 SMSs rather than send one drab SMS.

@Abu:How u dey main man?MTN just broke another record. 17Kb of yahoo page took an hour to open! What sort of business sense does it make to introduce a service and warp it up because you are protecting an sms service that caters for a predominantly different segment of market. They might as well scrape the service entirely! |

Ife i support dat idea of d networks offering free gprs as value added service, maybe they need 2 complete upgrade, then create enuf awareness, i cant imagine dat dey r
still chargin N15 per sms, well tank God 4 Vmobile, they all need 2 do some homework anyway, Happy Easter in advance u all.

@angel: NCC is a toothless bulldog watchin the gsm companies eat us alive. it has been purely market forces that have dictated the pace. if glo ddnt come with their aggressive marketing (do i hear mike for pres?) we would still be buying sims at 20k!
@ifed: did you time it from when loading commenced or when you clicked what ever link? if its the former then its too bad. if the latter maybe some of that time was to reconnect to the isp. |

@Abu:abeg na when loading start I begin count.I no fit shout!
@Angel:I can't begin to thank glo enough.Left alone, this mongrels from South Africa will never introduce GPRS till kingdom come.Of course they have a valid excuse;they, like Mongo Park discovered "bush" 9ja so we'll shout Amen for any rubbish they dish out after all we do not know anything telecom.Per second billing?O that one comes after ten years of network roll out.Our Ogas in MTN have spoken!

Please can anybody tell why opera doesn't open with Vmobile anymore?I'm tired of MTN crawl and can't risk flinging away my phone in frustration. Please consider request as urgent as user has been certified a web junkie and risks extensive damage to self if not given his "fix!" |

@ifed, what version or brand of opera are you using, is it opera mini or opera for symbian phones?
You also have to tell us the exact model of phone you use. I'm on the Vmobile network and never had any problems connecting with either opera mini, phone built in browser or connecting via PC. Except that it's difficult to connect sometimes & you'll have to keep on trying till it connects, once it connects it works. |

Bros it's a version 1.20 opera mini and I'm using a Nokia 6630. I never had problems with it before. Now everything is conspiring to make me go crazy!
