I exaggerated a bit maybe. from what i've seen for samsung its far from 16gb, the software leaves 8gb free. i don't think that sony will offer 2 version one 16 and another 32. they most likely just bump it to 32 or 64. the question is when.

Sony appear to be cheapskates when it comes to NAND.
Perhaps its the reason they manage to undercut the prices of certain flagships.
The iPhone has a 128GB option, so its not technologically impossible to have that, as well as micro-SD expansion. Its simply a case of whether or not they can take the hit to their bottom line.
Number one priority for them is generating sales and being profitable. |

Since we're taking about high-end devices (>500EUR/600USD) 16GB ROM is more than just a insolence. If OEM's want me to pay a premium price than I want premium hardware, that simple. 64GB or go home! |

If Sony provided 64GB+ roms in their flagship phones then wouldn't they be less likely to include expandable storage? With extra memory, less people would feel the need to expand.

The only issue is that you can't write to external memory with non native apps anymore with the latest version of Android. |

This is not exactly true. Apps can only write to THEIR DIRECTORY on the SD card. So if you had a music player, it could write songs to its directory, but it wouldn't have permission to write just anywhere on the SD card. This is why you can still store music, for instance, on the SD card, but file managers don't work. |

then the solution is to file a petition against google. google has been trying to limit sd card capacities on devices to make people rely on their cloud services. consumers should unite to do something about this. |

@Wintermute
The problem here is when you have more than one music apps, or even a simple mp3 tag editor... or if you keep your pictures in the microSD then only one app will access it for viewing/editing/managing...
I feel Android should introduce a Media folder with it's own permissions ( apps must require a permission to access it when installed ) so every app has it's own space like now, but still there's your media which can be accessed by all your media apps...
The other problem is that most apps will always use the internal memory even for data and cache, wasting valuable internal memory.. and these apps will not give you any option to save the cache in the external... I guess Android should have a global setting for this...
I know some apps data must be in the internal, but not the cache...
@miromiromi
regarding the cloud, there's two main problems
1- cloud services isn't reliable every where in the globe, most connected users has very poor internet connection or limited bandwidth.
2- cloud services are not available worldwide, even for Google's own services like Books, Music and Movies
So basically if the move fits US or European market they should not force it worldwide where it won't fit at all...
but Google is doing it anyway, so the only solution for users is looking for higher internal storage which Sony does not provide now and still sticking to the 16GB since 3-4 years !!
