Anyone saw any improvement on pic quality since R1BC? it is written
"Center Weighted Average metering used instead of standard Average metering to improve photos in lower level lighting conditions."
Is it true? How if the camera is still 4.5...
thanks

Thanks for your replies. I updated the first post yesterday stating that the Zoom issue started with R1N035, and as user don't seem to have the problem with R1L i'll keep the entry as it is now.
Personally I think the firmware was specifically rewritten to stop >2MP pictures being zoomed into for stability reasons.
Incidentally, I am getting reports in that the M4A tag reading bug is not actually present in R1BC. Any others want to back this up? Looks like I may have to write another test for you guys to go through! It will be so much easier when O2 realease R1BC for my K750!!

Tested the pictures on R1L002; as warner, I can't see the 3 MB one, but can zoom on the 'middle' one, although it's so painfully slow that I think you shouldn't worry much about the feature being included or not since it's pretty useless...
@max: really, doesn't it allow unasked BT transfers? Damn it! One of the main reasons for leaving R1L002... can any other confirm this?

I know, this is a big disappointment. Unless I'm doing something wrong - I went to bluetooth permissions on the phone, set my pc in the list of bluetooth devices to "ask once" under the "allow connection" menu (out of two options - "ask once" and "ask always"), yet it still prompts every single time!
@mwarner,
re: the zoom issue, a little extra info, I find that I don't even have the zoom option for large images (R1BC). I can rotate them to horizontal, but there is simply no option to zoom in as there is with smaller images.
So it looks like you are right - it's been removed for images larger than 1600x1200. I can view and rotate the large images perfectly, just not zoom them.

the m4a tag reading is only applicable on the w800i. if you load or create a new playlist after updating to r1bc, the m4a tags of those files cannot be read. however, if you've got an old playlist before upgrading and you still use that, the m4a tags are present. but regardless whether you're using old or new playlist, the music title indicator on the top of the screen now displays the actual filename rather than artist - title that was present in r1aa. |

Maybe I'm not clear, the things is, prior to R1BC, it simply saves it without you having to press "Save". The problem is, when the party you're calling dropped the call, you will not have an opportunity to save!! I find that ridiculous.

After selecting "Record" from the More menu, the phone starts recording the call right away. I have the "Save" action on the left softkey then. Pressing "Save" would stop the recording and save the file under Sounds.

When I upgraded to R1AA a month ago, all of a sudden i could not sync with my PC any more (specifically Outlook calendar/tasks witht he DCU-60 USB Cable) The sync engine cranks to about 25% and then interrupts saying "sending cancelled." It does the same amount every time. Anyone else have this issue?
Does anyone know if R1BC will fix this issue too if "all USB transfer issues fixed?"
I am running a k750i running the Vodafone Branded Firmware (i think, i mean i have vodafone live icons present - the phone is the black one that says "quickshare" at the bottom.) Does this mean i cannot update to R1BC just yet? |

I think you will find that It is required by law that a sound is played if you are recording a phone call. This informs the person on the other end you are recording it and there is no way to turn it off. |

I have a K750 with 4 problems i've found - but they are not caused by the latest firmware, these have never been fixed since day one.
1) The biggest problem i've found with PhotoDJ (among its many problems) is if you are trying to edit a large photo - anything above the phone screen resolution - ie 1600x1200 2MP photos - then you cannot zoom out to see what you are doing. Hopefully this will be updated soon.
Sony Ericsson know the photos this phone takes are 1600x1200 pixels, but why they include a photoDJ that cannot see the full photo while editing is beyond me.
2) Another flaw that has been around since firmware #1 and never corrected: In Media player there is no permanent sort function. Sure, you can sort them into alphabetical order, but once you quit media player and go back into it the songs are all jumbled up.
They are ordered from the date you added them by default.
This means that I have to delete my MP3 playlist that I created, and add all the mp3s I have on my 2GB card from top to bottom, so they are in alphabetical order by default. Of course, File manager sorts them alphabetically by default.
EDIT: This appears to have been fixed in the latest firmware.
3) In file manager (and media Player) if you are sorting through songs, and you want to skip to an artist starting with the letter 'M' or something, you can't just press 'M' on the keypad. (6)
Although the letter thing comes up in the corner, it doesn't actually allow you to skip. And because the joystick goes down quite slowly, it takes you ages to get anywhere if you have 400 songs. Obviously this is VERY annoying for me if I want to play a Metallica song, or a song in the middle of the alphabet. It also happens in Media Player.
4)
Before you read this, I order all my MP3s like this (on my PC):
ARTIST name - SONG title
eg. Metallica - Enter Sandman
Media player and File Manager. File Manager actually displays the full name of the file, as it would appear on your desktop PC. Whereas Media player shows the TITLE of the song - and displays the artist followed by a dash then the title in the bar above on a slide.
If you want to change the name of a song, you have to load the song, go into realplayer, click File, Clip Properties and then change the name of the title/artist as you want it to appear on your phone.
This gets annoying when you have full CD's ripped to your computer, when you put them on your phone you get a list of songs like this:
Track 10
Track 2
Track 5
Track 12
Track 3
Track 6
Track 8
Track 7
Track 11
Track 9
Track 4
etc..
Unless you carry around the CD cover, then you have no way of knowing what song is what. This forces you to do the RealPlayer clip properties process 13 times for each track - Typing in the full name of the Title and the Artist each time.
I have no solution on how SE can fix this last problem, because if you have a full filename in Media player, then you would not be able to see the song name, just the artist - because the screen cannot fit it all in. If you have multiple songs by the same artist, it looks like this:
Metallica - E.....
Metallica - D....
Metallica - F.....
You have to wait for the song name to slide across.
File manager uses that system, and you get the disease like in that example above.
oh and btw - my Phone doesn't make any sound when starting to record a call - it's latest firmware HONG KONG region.
Cheers!

Can anyone tell me what on earth happened to this gadget by SE?
http://l8shop.net/Products/So[....]luetooth_Motion_Cam_ROB_1.aspx
The ROB-1 Robot Camera. It was apparantly release in March 05, but I cannot find a place to buy it from, they all say it is either coming soon or discontinued. There are no articles on the net that says why it has been delayed/not produced.. I can't work it out!
Can anyone help me? I'm looking for one that is cheap, and ships to New Zealand. I'd prefer to deal with an NZ or australian company though.
These are all the links of info I have on it so far:

How can i get back to R1AA008? Help please.

1) Probably because the PhotoDJ was ported over from earlier phones, and is only meant to edit small pictures for use as contact images, and not as a photoshop replacement. Also, there IS a "Preview" feature which zooms out.
3) In the file manager I can jump around using the alphabet just fine.
3-4) The k750i isn't an MP3 phone. It's a pain to use as an MP3 phone because they want you to buy the w800 instead. You should be grateful they included anything outside of listening to songs in the file manager at all. The w800 has a full-featured media player where you can dig down a tree of artists/albums/titles. And to avoid filename/id3 tag mismatches, use iTunes for your CD ripping needs. |
