Yeah, I'm counting down the minutes till kickoff at Stade de France. I finished the last remaining Amstel this evening don't know if I'll be able to get anything down my throat after 8.45pm.
The odds are heavily stacked against us, hoping we shock them.
I've peeped Tahir on other forums and he's not as abrasive as he was on here.

Hey guys, I randomly came to this site and saw the SA forum....Took me quite a while to read to catch up with all the recent posts here...
@bradboy: I just wanted to say that the 6680 is my fav fone because its the most reliable - Ive hardly ever had it crash/Freeze...My two N series fones are not quite as quick as my 6680 which is actually wierd....oh and before i forget the N70 has a problem with minimizing apps which the 6680 can easily do to an extent...So if you could choose, id recommend da 6680
btw to all of you guys here at this thread, your doing a GREAT job

Have you got yourself a N80  AND N70 to complement your 6680, as per your signature? If so, you're one very lucky bugger!

Wel i got the n80 frm Dubai quite recently through a friend bt use my 6680 the most.....I find my n70(from mtn) has smal bugs that my 6680 dnt...My n80 is actuali quite nyc bt i dnt take it around coz of security reasons...Oh and the apps on my 6680 are opera, media safe, spodradio, mobi tv and music players and stuff like dat.......

So on the 6680 you're able to run something like Opera (which is quite memory-intensive) and Spod or Mobi simultaneously without any lag or auto-shutdown of apps?

On the subject of crashing, occasionaly I have to take out the battery when I get a "white screen problem" but that happens seldom. Other than that the P910i has been stable as a rock in a stormy see of bugs and warez.
@brad: Thanks for the good wishes...I've told my girfriend that she will have to factor in alienation tonight when I'm glued to the box.
@da krypsta: Electricity situation down here is still good...the sh!t will hit the proverbial fan much later when they shut down one of the reactors for refuelling. To save electricity I'm switching off the geyser during the day, while I'm at work. You might have seen this on tv but Eskom has distributed free low-power light bulbs in the townships to save on electricty.

Brix, i seriously hope that the electricity situation doesn't affect the nation's enjoyment of the World Cup.... That other occasional obstacle to enjoyment of the Cup is neatly dealt with here-

@da krypsta: I'm in the minority when I say that I won't be actively following the World Cup...without South Africa there there's no use shouting for some crappolla foreign team.
I'd rather follow the tri-nations rugby tournament.

@786KBR: No offence but after watching the African Nations Cup where all of these teams played, I'm afraid they'll be the joke of the World Cup...check this, there's no Nigeria, no Senegal, No Tunisia, and No Egypt...on paper those are the best teams on the contintent but somehow they conspired in play some of the worst football in the qualifiers allowing minnows through to the finals in Germany.
PS: Just saw a print ad for the W810i in Heat magazine.

Good post there Menageryl...The reason I chose UIQ over S60 was mainly due to security issues in the latter. Mention Cabir and I say UIQ.
The downside of UIQ IMO is it's irritating touchscreen which goes out of synch ever so often and when I have to either go into the settings to re-calibrate it or re-boot the phone, another niggle is the availability of software for UIQ compared to S60...The last couple of weeks I've been mulling about the prospect of getting my hands on a N70 but procrastination and my busy work schedule seems to have conspired to keep me clear of Vodashop.

Well, I'm an absolute mobile-geek and worshipper, and alla my research, experiences, and feedback from others I trust has left me with a very bad taste with regards Nokia's implementations of certain technology... A good example is their Java implementations - they leave large chunks of the standards and stacks etc. out of what's put into the phone, but then give said phone an unqualified "Java XX Certified" stamp - which one only finds out later is useless for certain uses and so-on.
' SE on the other hand have the habit of implementing a COMPLETE standard. When they say "X" is implemented in a handset, they generally mean 'all of X' - not bits and pieces and what seemed like a good idea at the time!
' I'm not saying this is the case across the board with regards Nokia - and Java was just used as a good, well-established example to support my argument - but Nokia have done this sorta thing far too often and in far too many different handsets in my opinion!!!
' Also wanted to say that - while I'm still on a P900 instead of a P910 (the incremental differences between 'em wasn't enough to make me take the dent to my bank accounts when I '"knew" a 3G version was "around the corner" (at the time we thought it was - didn't think it would be delayed as badly as it has been!!!)) - and the P900 is supposedly significantly behind firmware-wise, I've yet to experience serious issues with it or any "real" instabilities!!! I've not experienced the screen recalibration issue you mentioned at all, for one. The worst I've had is the need to reboot maybe once a day in order to free up memory which seems to become permanently unavailable after enough applications are used throughout the day! Of course, I'm a MAJOR power-user, so... <Shrugs>
' Oh! I've had to "hard-off" (where one holds the power button for about 15-20 seconds) about thrice in the 2.5 years I've had the device as some application froze the OS. But that's that. Not data loss or real problems / instabilities!

' I definitely agree about the software availability issue when compared with S60 - but that should be mitigated to some extent now that UIQ 3.0 is built for pure 1-handed operation as per S60 as well as all previous operation modes; and with the inclusion of a larger number of UIQ-based devices / handsets which is sure to happen for similar reasons... Alla this hopefully means developers will see a larger target market and thus develop more for it - the new UIQ and Symbian 9.1 combination allows for really SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful and versatile applications now too - so that should also play a role I hope!
