Quickly press the power button, i think it brings up profiles etc and you can turn on silent mode there. Well its like that on most new s but I have had no experience with the 990 yet.

I don't think SEUS would help, because the main software of the phone is installed that way anyway, just go back to Chinatown or local second hand phone shops in NYC and have it flashed into Sim Free Generic Version.
I think this will solve your problem
@ DEVONN the same goes to you.

Yes most networks do have 'back-compatibility' to the b-only standard, the problem is - if you have a few pc connected to a 'g' hub and a 'b' gets on there too the whole network will suffer. I know it should not be this way under 'ideal circumstances' but unfortunately the reality is not ideal. Last year I had to upgrade one of my PC's exactly because of this. And now a new standard is setting in - ever heard of 'turbo g'. SE must really wake up -

Actually these days wireless chipsets have moved on somewhat and most can handle both b and g devices being connected at the same time without the g devices taking a performance hit.
"Turbo G" as you call it is NOT a standard at all. Currently there are only two wifi standard: 802.11b and 802.11g. The next version 802.11n is a long way off becoming a standard.
"Turbo G" is actually in general a bad thing anyway - it you didn't know how it works it normally uses channel bonding - using two channels at once to increase throughput. Might sound like a good thing, but in a densly populated area both "Turbo G" and some pre standard "n" or "MIMO" devices can easily kill other wireless networks - not good at all.
Of course not being standard either, you generally must use equipment from the same manufacturer ensuring the same chipset is used throughout to get the increased wireless speeds.
Whilst 802.11g may have been "nice to have" on the P990i I can see little advantage to it to be honest. The P990i is simply not able to utilise the sorts of speeds that 802.11g could deliver. |

Sound like you have a phone from some provider that have removed this feature. You bought it via Vodafone or some provider?

Just noticed the weirdest thing!
For all those who use their P990i with the FLIP OFF, try placing the flip on top of the handset (where it would normally be placed) and watch the screen layout change. ..
|
|
This is because magnets are used to detect flip open/closed and this is why cases with a magnetised closure causes some odd behaviour with the P990

If you actually have the handset boxed, then there is a VF seal on the box. Also, I've upped a pic of the label as well for you to compare.

Ahh ok thanks.....Im trying to get 1 off ebay at the min.....theres alot of voda branded handsets on there and because there unopend and thats the way they want to sell them.....its difficult to find out if they are branded or not without switching them on.
Thanks anyways for the pics mate.....suppose the best way to tell is from the seal...vodafone red writing ....unbranded handset black writing (i think)

Just got back from Cambridge and have bought my P990 on Vodafone. Got one of the first batch so it's not branded.
However, I must say I'm very unimpressed so far. One of the first things I tried to do was open the calendar, and it seems to crash everytime I do that.
I tried to update via SEUS but it says the latest firmware is already installed.
Has anyone else had this problem with the Calendar, etc, and also what should the firmware version be if it really is up to date?
