Like someone said, I think it's a joystick for gaming.
Doubtful that it's for the Satio as the color schemes don't match. I wish it was, though. |

Its for Gesture gaming ,In some games you have to stand infront of the phone like boxing game in Wii.....So the stand is needed.

It might work, but I hardly think anybody is going to be that keen to stand in front of a tiny mobile phone to look like a douche playing a game. So yeah, it's a gimmick through and through.
