@ da brixsta,
That's the African News channel name on Sky Digital.
Herewith their site:
http://www.obetv.co.uk/

Their site's introductory paragraph:

'African news on OBE Television - Keeping you up to date with news from the entire continent of Africa by South Africa Broadcasting New (SABC), The most credible source of news from the African continent. Research shows that more than 85% of Africans rely on SABC news as a consistent and accurate source of reporting.'

Go SA!

@ dr_thug,
Yeah valid point; the continuous P990 delays will make some of its features passe by the time it becomes widely available; it's such a fast-evolving market that these big delays are inevitably gonna hurt some sales, although I can still see the P990 selling out all over, particularly in the initial months of market availability.
Despite increasingly impatient, disgruntled-by-delays SE fans, the P-series has such a healthy international fanbase that these 'P-Series followers' are bound to still ensure some big sales volumes for this particular market segment...IMHO.

Hey Guys.

I phoned my SE rep today. asked him about the P990 release date. He told me August. On www.gsmarena.com people talk about a may release. but then again we all know how people spread rumors. guess we will just have to wait and hear it from the horses mouth.

Unfortunately this is extremely evident in online market places like eBay. I really feel for the honest, hard-working Nigerian citizens who may be so unfairly restricted or ostracised from online market places and the like, purely on the grounds of being from 9ja. The wrongdoings of these scammers have really tarnished reputations and made many international communities online very pre-judgemental towards buyers from Nigeria. How unfair these wrongdoings are on the (vast) rest of the Nigerian population...
The authorities there should have a 'witch-hunt' for these scammers; get their IP addresses and/or postal addresses that they often print in their emails etc. and track 'em down!

Talking of scams...yesterday I saw a "419" email puporting to come from Stella Sigcau...what the fraudsters didn't know (how could they?) was that Ms Sigcau had passed away on the weekend. It should be noted that Sigcau was implicated by Bantu Holomisa of accepting bribes from Sol Kerzner back in the 80s. Today, the former head of an apartheid bantustan, is getting a state funeral and being lauded from across the political spectrum when her performance as Minister of Public Enterprises was the most woeful of all ministers perhaps excluding the then Minister of Health (Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma)...South African politics never ceases to amaze.

Welcome to the SA thread, wazarmoto!
Great to have another SA citizen on board.
Interesting username...is the 'moto' suffix denoting a Motorola fan in our midst, or a reference to some European language word for 'motorcycle', or both?
About the release date; I sometimes take info posted in the gsmarena forums with a pinch of salt; not the site's phone info itself, but as regards some of the 'opinions' posted...
At this stage, on virtually any site discussing the P990, the exact release date seems to be still very shrouded in mystery...

@Brix, maybe they're having all the fanfare as a tongue-in-cheek sigh of relief...

@Wazarmoto, welcome boet.

I agree with Wanqa, there are those who post commentary on gsmarena that's quite biased, to put it mildly, while the reviews in general are well-written and comprehensive.

Regarding the P990, i'm positive we'll start seeing them popping up on ebay soon

Spot on Krypsta

Almost forgot about the impending release of the P990...August is too soon to be expecting SE's flagship in South Africa...just my two cents.

Forgot to mention that the outcome of the JZ saga made it into quite a few of the Pom newspapers on Tuesday.
Tried to take a pic of the article and accompanying photo, from the free daily newspaper available at London Underground stations, called The Metro.
However, the close-up pics of the article, taken with the 3230, were not clear and defined enough to make them worthwhile posting in the thread.

Not to worry Wanqa, his face is splashed across every paper over here, he's on every television news report and radio bulletin, so much so that i'm even dreaming of the dude! Can just see him now, standing next to my bed leering wickedly at me while exhorting the curative powers of fresh running water hehehe. Wonder what Freud would make of that dream... LMAO, O Kryptik One!!

In other news, I'm really disappointed that the final round of the World Superbike Championship, which was supposed to return to SA on 22 October, has been cancelled and the series will now end with one round less as a result.
Apparently no circuit could be confirmed, which doesn't really pinpoint the exact reasons as both Kyalami and The Phakisa Freeway track in Welkom have been used before and obviously meet all the international standards and criteria...
SA last had the a round of the WSB Championship in 2002 at Kyalami, as opposed to Phakisa where the Motorcycle GP used to be. Over 40 000 people attended the 2002 round, and was watched around the world by millions.
A real pity then, as the event always generated a lot of coverage, money and exposure for SA...

I'm suprised that Zuma has gone on a PR crusade after the stupid things he said...he'll probably run for the ANC presidency next year.

And of course now that the ANCYL have been pointing the finger at Ronnie Kasrils et al it's going to become even more interesting...

Ronnie Kasrils is a soft target...when was the last time you saw him at a June 16 rally? Does he still carry intelectual weight apart from condemning Israel a couple of years ago for their occupation of Palestine?

The ANCYL knows that attacking Comrade Ronnie can't do them much harm since the guy is old and let's be honest he doesn't carry much political muscle within the alliance.

Back on phone matters...seemingly everyone is getting themselves the N70 around the office...my friend and a collegue got themselves the phone during the past week...have to say the MTN version looks nice, it's got an almost creamy colour to it. I'm still trying to sort out some issues with Vodacom before I take delivery of mine.

Hiya Hexa, welcome bro.

Yep, these things do happen

Equally random, has anybody heard that song doing the rounds? It has the same metre as Shaggy's Wasn't Me, the lyrics have been tweaked to parody JZ's saga It's hilarious, heard it for the second time today, trying to trace the lyrics, artist etc
