As far as C6906 concern, I think it will come following after global LTE release, alike different timeframe.
(Zomg once quote that T-Mobile probably get Z1 sometime around Black Friday)
too late to the game then just like they did with Z and an exclusive to T-Mobile means no unlocked Z1 to be found again just like the Z....
I'm telling you they don't want me to give them money anymore , being buying SE and Sony every year since the T68, impossible to get my hands on one this year and it's not looking good for this one as well..
@moogoo, with my AT&T LTE unlimited plan, they throttle me over 5GB, but can only feel it if downloading a file or an app etc...web browsing if fine, I go from 30/50 Mbps regular speed down to around 5 Mbps but browsing feels still normal |

grandfathered plan, got this account with 2 lines since 2000, when I got the ion last year, I had to go into the an AT&T store to get the phone (which was free if I resigned a 2 years contract ) because my plan is so old it didn't show up when trying to place my order online...went down to store, took a phone as it was free, and they transferred my plan with no problem as usual, I just can't do it online
what I do in general when I'm due for a free upgrade, I resign a contract and get a free phone if they have what I'm interesting in, then the year after I get an unlocked one...since I couldn't get an unlocked Z this year (we'll see if I can find an unlocked Z1 later on) I will have to wait for next year and see if AT&T picks up a Sony phone and I'll get it at a discount...
will be on the hunt for an unlocked one until I'm due for an upgrade though

cool.
i'm up for upgrade. i'll be getting an iphone 5s, selling it, and using the guaranteed profit to offset the price of an unlocked Z1
like i said earlier in this thread, i had unlimited mobile data back in 2004 and when i got the x10, they cut me off immediately and stuck me on a 2GB plan.

that's an other way to do it
edit: I just realised I never posted that much since I joined esato in 2005 and I did browse here pretty much every day since then!
edit2: they tried to pull the same thing when I got the X10 as well since I was coming from a K850 if I recall correctly, but they said that I could keep my unlimited data if I paid an extra $5 a month... deal

VA Panels do not have as perfect viewing angles as IPS( Z Ultra ) but have better colors and superior contrast. Top BRAVIA sets use VA panels. The award winning BRAVIA HX series TVs all use VA panel
So head on Z1 will be noticeably superior to Z Ultra, while viewing angles would only very slightly worse ( noticeable only when you do a direct comparison)

yes and better blacks - ZU was a very impressive device, the best screen I have ever seen on a phone, if the Z1 is going to be even better then I'm not sure what to say, I sold the ZU because it was a little too big and the camera just didn't make me happy, if it had had the Z camera I might have kept it |

To review:
VA LCD
PROS: better colors, better contrast
CONS: viewing angles not as good (colors start to wash out at high angles), refresh rate not as high
IPS LCD
PROS: great viewing angles, high refresh rate
CONS: contrast and colors not as good/vivid
ALSO..
Just to make a point that it doesn't really matter, as far as i have read, there has been no major website that has said the Z1 has poor viewing angles or has a poor display. In fact, it has been praised by many sites as being very impressive and comparable or better to the leading competitors. Even sites who previously bashed the Z for having a bad display and sites who are generally anti-sony have not bashed the Z1 display. The ONLY one who has is the VERGE.. and we all know they're idiots over there.
So, that should give anyone who has doubts about the display pretty good confidence. But, by all means, if you can, you should try the device yourself and trust your own eyes.

@moogoo
VA is actual better with motion and response time. IPS is "slower" but on a smartphone motion performance is not really relevant |

Do you read what Xell wrote? You don`t trust him?
For me it is absolutely unbelievably: after all noise about bad screen at SZX and good and very good screens at Tablet Z and SZX Ultra they put same cheap panel to its megaflagship all around great phone!?
Man here says good - screen in real life not near as good as on promo pictures.
I really hope, that stocking models will be better because i really whan`t to by it.
You can 1000 times said that i`m trool, but it is nothing changing. Sorry for my bad english. |

Great to hear this thing about VA and IPS (always learning something new here on ESATO )
But where did you find that the Z1 panels are VA LCD? |

Some chinese site interviewed a Sony exec who mentioned they are using VA panel on Z1 and used IPS on Z Ultra because of the large screen size.
Also Honami rumors always mentioned a VA panel with 2000:1 Contrast ratio. |

I didn't know this... thanks
Well if I had to sacrifice a bit of viewing angles for having more contrast and more brightness then I'm all in... |
