question..compared to LG viewty, k850's camera is better, worse, or on par. What is your opinion to choose between them? Please don't be subjective.
thanx very much |

Your phone is on 'divert always' for video calls.
Go to menu>settings>calls>divert calls>video calls>divert always and choose 'deactivate'
This will then allow video calls and also remove the icon you refer to.
Cheers

I am running an unbranded k850i with the R1CA037 firmware.
Having just read through all 38 pages (o_0) I have this icon too, however if I go to the menu options detailed above, there are no options available.
Also, I have set the phone to be GSM only as I have no need of 3G, however the G icon remains over the signal strength indicator. Is this OK or does it mean it is still looking for a 3G signal?
This post seems to be fairly comprehensive in replies, so thanks in advance |

@CEEBEEUK
It might not necessarily be the video calls that are set to divert and if it is it might be linked to the fact that you've disabled the 3G (video calls can only be received in 3G coverage areas).
As for the G icon in the very top corner above the signal bars, this is to indicate that you are on a 2G network. The icon is supposed to represent a 'G' behind another 'G', hence 2G. You need 2G to make voice calls.

Thanks, a G icon meant 3G to me! As the manual doesn't have a screen break down, that helps!
What's the 3G icon then?
Oh, and the divert calls menu options are empty for voice and video !?

Depending on your branding the 3G icon will either be a light blue square with what look like darker blue ripples going across it (I've seen this used on T-Mobile and 3) or simply '3G', '3G+' or 'H' on a red or blue square background (I've seen these on by Vodafone, O2 and generic firmwares).
As for the divert symbol I think it must be something that's set to divert. In the calls section of the setting menu you should be able to do a 'check all' on diverts. It will either be data, fax, video or voice calls that are diverted.

Okay, I completely realize that this is the most annoying noobie thing to do but I need to do it anyway. Please forgive me.
I tried to search for the answer but haven't found it and can't seem to find a "search this thread" feature.
Okay, I just picked up the K850i a few days ago and when notice a problem with the slide show feature. When I view the images and scroll through them, there is a "clarification" process that all Sony digital cameras seem to do (my DSC-T200 does it too) that turns the image from hideously pixelated to perfect clarity. However, when I view the images in the slide show mode, more than a few of the images come up in the pixelated state.
Is this a problem with my phone? The images are actually very crisp and clear but appear pixelated ONLY in the slide show mode.
I have 1 more days to exchange the phone if there is a manufacturer defect so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Again, my apologies for the noobie faux pas of not finding the answer to what must be a common question.
Cheers. |

the "clarification" process seems normal to me, my phone has it too.
just a way of saving on memory when viewing many photos in the slideshow mode i guess.

Thanks for trying to help
If I go to settigs > Calls > Divert Calls I have two options Voice calls and Video Calls. If I select either of those it takes me to an empty menu, with only the 'back' soft key enabled.
Is this normal for a sim free, non branded phone? |

Hi Everyone!
I've read through this forum, but cannot seem to find the answer to a small problem I'm having with my K850i
I'm using a Tmobile branded Sony Ericsson K850i with firmware rev R1DA038
When the phone is set to "Silent", it doesnt ring, it just vibrates (which is fine), but when I end a call, it makes a sound! (as in a end call tone) This was the same for my K800i when in General, but never in Silent.
Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening on the k850i?

Just got my K850i (blue) today and was wondering if the blue around the phone is supposed to light up?
Thanks. |

Nope its just plastic the blue bit

@gurmukh, this is normal behavier of the K850i. The feature comes through your ear speaker and just warns you that your call has ended.
Silent mode stops the phone from ringing and making noises through the speaker.
You may also notice that on silent that the camera still sounds.

On most pictures I take the xenon flash ruins it I think. Im running R1Da038 firmware.
For example taking a self portrait using the xenon is impossible, way too much flash in the picture and it is just all white and no detail c an be seen. Same with anything up close using the flash in moderate lighting.
Outside pictures in moderate/dim/night lighting seems to have the closest thing to the camera mega bright and then anything behind it in almost complete darkness?
So.. does anyone have any tips for the camera especially when using the flash? I'm careful not to put my fingers near the sensor thing.
What settings should I try for taking pictures of things fairly close using the flash? For example a self picture.
Can I use the LED light without the flash? Would be great if I could, but I don't know how? All my pictures look great in the preview before the shutter snaps and then the look rubbish afterwards.
Thanks

hi darrengf
Thanks for getting back to me, I used to own the K800i and the end call sound didnt use to be that loud at all. You are right, the sound comes from the earphone and not the actual speaker. Is tehre a way to lower the volume of this sound? I have the earphone volume on about 60%, the end call sound is much much much higher than a standard voice call. |
