to provide an update.

I reflashed the phone and put on hardly any apps or roms other than
Vodafone_Contract_UK_PPC_V2.0.CAB
fit4cat
tomtom
and a few manual customisations such as time, date, background, owner info.

And the same screen alignment issue.

I have now just hard reset the phone and not touched it other than set the time and date and i'll see what happens, but I got feeling that my screen alignment issue will not be fixed.

after upgrading the firmware, will I still be able to return it to vodafone for an exchange.

You should have no problem returning it just make sure you flash it to the vodafone rom and thats that.

How do i do this now?

Which firmware version shoud i use and which Vodafone ROM? When i used the Dopod Firmware and Vodafone UK Extended Rom from the XDA site, i got errors saying cannot find windows\\vodafone.bmp.

I guess the Vodafone UK Ext ROM looks for custom files which shoud be there, however, as it the Dopod one, they are not there and gives a error.

I know its a bit late but justed the music reproduction of the M3100. Not bad actually, not as good as the P990 but better than the Universal. Also found volume level to be very good.

@ Libby-
I have the Orange m3100 too and it's really easy to remove the orange stuff, apart from the different icons.
Goto 'settings', then 'today'.
in the 'appearance' tab switch to 'windows default'
in the 'items' tab uncheck the 'orange' box,
press ok
i was really chuffed to find this after all the messing about to get rid of the orange homescreen on the p900 and p910. hope it's what you were wanting.

HELP!!

Whilst pleased to report phone is working perfectly - screen, keyboard and all (my SN ends in .38), I cannot get Activeync to work.

I'm only trying to sync with Outlook, not with any exchange server or anything - just my POP emails in Outlook. The error code says problem with the desktop, code 85010014 - been to the Windows site, and followed instructions - updated to version 4.2, and added the necessary files to the 'permit' list on Norton Internet Security, but still the same. The only thing I've not tried yet is re-installing Outlook, but (a) I'd rather not do that if poss, as have had a couple of computer probs last couple of weeks, and (b) I don't know off the top of my head where the CD is!

Don't get me wrong, if it's unsolvable I'll have to find it and do it, but I'm just hoping not to - anyone any ideas? I can move files across manually, etc, just can't sync. Is there something I should do on my phone first that I've missed maybe?

Sorry to be a pest, but been trying to fix it for about 2 hours and just about ready to scream (well, cry actually, but that's far too girly to admit... )

Been doing a little bit of 'stress' testing with the M3100, and the results are mixed.

I was listening to some music (reggae!) via BT using the HBH-DS970, the sound level was very good (quality not as good as the P990 though). Then I tried to do a bit of web browsing, now remember I was on a train at the time. Well with BT running (AD2P) the M3100 became sluggish and when the M3100 was trying to find a signal the music playback was interrupted a number of times. It may an issue with Orange GPRS and 3G, but the web browsing was not that quick at all compared to the P990 using T-mobiles 3G. Will repeat the test using T-mobile to see if the slow download/rendering was a network issue.

@Libby24

Have you disabled advanced networking in connections???
Start->settings->connections tab->USB to PC

Untick the box and try again!? What version of outlook is it you run?!

@ Libby24

Do you have a firewall running?... if so you might need to tweak the settings to allow Activesync access to your phone. Probably easiest to quicky disable the firewall and try syncing - see if that fixes it.

I was using Sygate as a firewall and that didn't play with Activesync at all (a bug in Sygate apparently) so I ended up having to switch to ZoneAlarm

Also I seem to remember the first time you sync it does seem to take its time and appears as if it isn't doing anything for a little bit.

Ooops...
Just noticed you mentioned changing settings in Norton - still might be worth disabling it, also I seem to remember reading somewhere that it will not sync with anything older than Outlook 2002 or express versions (which is why they include a copy on the CD)

Hope you get it sorted!

Hi mrvanx - yep, have tried the advanced networking checkbox both enabled and disabled - same problem.

I'm running Outlook 2003, which Windows Mobile recommend. It's really doing my head in now!! According to the WM site it can be because of 4 problems - 2 should be solved by upgrading to Activesync 4.2, which I've done, another is because your security program can disable scripting in Outlook, but mine doesn't, and the final one is that Outlook needs to be removed and re-installed. Nightmare!!

Yep, have tried just turning the firewall off, still no problem. Doesn't reallys urprise me as had already added all the Activesync programs & connections to the enable list. Running out of ideas!

Outlook service updates? Have you checked at the M$ site for these? May help.

@Libby24, did you do an upgrade of Activesync from a previous version? If so try a clean install by clearing out the AS folder in program files, rebooting and then reinstalling.

1st) Ran update, downloaded 4 critical updates, but still got same error code.

2nd) Ran a repair install of Activesync 4.2, and only set to sync tasks - which worked. So added calendar, then contacts, and it still worked. Then added email, and wham! A whole new error code!

Activesync on PC showing error code 80070002 "synchronisation could not be completed".
Activesync on M3100 showing "system has had a critical error" and showing a different error code.

3rd) Tried syncing again and suddenly it all works! Just did it again and no problem, so ignore the above! How bizarre...

A DIFFERENT QUESTION though - when synced, where do your contacts go? I.e., where do the contacts that were on my M3100 get stored on my PC? (Edited to remove 2nd part of question that I've already solved)

Really appreciate everyone's help, hopefully this'll be the last thing I need to ask about (other than the best site to find the best downloads for programs for the M3100).

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
